I’d say it’s THE BEST. Knowing nothing about the comic/characters and forcing myself to stop watching previews a couple of months ago probably added to the enjoyment. The only two Marvel flicks that come close were the first IronMan and The Avengers. Also really enjoyed X-Men: First Class, but GOTG beats 'em all. Probably see it in the theatre again before it leaves.

Also saw the new Planet Of The Apes. Didn’t see the one with Franco so not sure how much was left on the table, but thought this was really well done. Not sure how they integrated the CGI with the live-action, but the actors did an awesome job. Gary Oldman might be the most versatile dude in Hollywood. [/quote]

Winter Soldier is in my Top 3 with GOTG and Avengers. It’s possible I’m underrating the first Iron Man, but that’s mainly (I think) because 2 was just ok and 3 was fucking terrible. Entertaining on some levels, but just an awful movie overall. I don’t count the X-Men or Spider Man movies since they’re owned by Sony or Fox or something, but even if I did none of them would beat out the Top 3.

Haven’t seen Winter soldier yet, but hear it’s badass. Gonna RedBox it when it’s out. Loved the first IronMan but haven’t even attempted to watch the third 'cause part 2 was such a mess. Thought the first Captain America was pretty good and actually think the Ed Norton HULK gets kinda slept on. It’d be pretty cool to get a proper Punisher and Ghost Rider but we’ll probably have to wait a few years. Wasn’t sure what our criteria was for “Marvel” but wanted to give First Class a shout out. Did you see the new X-Men? Don’t personally know anyone who has, wanna know if it’s worth the time.

Yeah, keep hearing the first Apes is good. After seein’ this new one I’m gonna have to hunt it down.

You know, as I sent that ^^^ started thinking that maybe it was just another shout out to 80’s pop culture. The movie was littered with ‘em, from ALF stickers in his ship to him calling the guards “Ninja Turtle”. Maybe they’re trying to gauge audience response to see if they should give ol’ Howard another shot. Loved the original as a kid but probably haven’t seen it in 20 years so there’s no tellin’ how bad it really is.

I think Capt. 2 is the best movie, in terms of actual movie-making, that Disney Marvel has done. Iron Man could have been the best if you didn’t have Obadiah lose his fucking mind in the last act. Seriously, wtf?

But Guardians is my favorite of them all. Incredibly entertaining. Acting is spot on (except Zoe Saldana as Gamora), the comedy just plain works, and the movie has heart. A lot of heart.

What gets me is he has such a vast resource of material, the original cartoon lasted ten years, the mirage books, the archie comics for camp, and even the new image books have so much to offer. Instead we get Meghan Fox not looking good at all, generic corporate viilian number 5, and no personality having turtles. As I said I’m done no more money for his films

Won’t be watching TMNT, but i just watched the Spike Lee remake of Old Boy and feel like ranting as well lol.

I’m not against remakes, especially ones like The Departed, which was a million times better than Infernal Affairs. But with the Old Boy remake, its like these fuckers got pissed off with the producers or financers or whatever sometime during the filming process and deliberately set out to make a dumb parody of the original film to piss everyone else off.

I thought Days of Future Past was better than First Class. Well worth the time; I was pissed they didn’t release it in IMAX though.

Anyone ever watch that review of all 3 transformers at once where the formula for the movies was exactly the same down to the timing of certain appearances within minutes of one another. I imagined the turtles movie to be similar. I’ll watch it when I illegally download it later but not paying a dime towards it.

In other news, I watched Capt 2 over the weekend. I really enjoyed it. I liked the first one a lot too. Getting a little annoyed with the whole SHIELD agent getting killed only to come back but I guess it would be fucked without that guy.

Mackey accidentally spoiled the beans with bucky taking over in a recent interview. They asked him about falcon taking over the mantle in the comics and he made some remark about bucky wearing the cap costume

Finally saw the Amazing Spiderman II. I don’t know what all the fuss was about. I thought it was pretty darn good.

Lucy- a bag of experimental super drugs with a street value of MacGuffin breaks open in the belly of a reluctant drug mule. She gains the ability to foresee her own death ( caused by the drugs) among other powers and spends the rest of the movie trying to master 100% use of her brain and transcend to the next level of consciousness before the drugs kill her. Morgan Freeman drops by to play a benign scientist and convinces everybody through a series of faux lectures that the science is sound.

The only real moral message is that evil Taiwanese gangsters shouldn’t traffick untested narcotics especially those that endow your would-be victims with telekinetic powers. Something to eat your popcorn to.

Under the Skin - Scar-Jo’s other recent foray into sci-fi: this time she plays an alien who is tasked with luring a series of lonely young men into a weird extra-dimensional trap where they become chow for her race (human flesh is a delicacy).

Whereas in Lucy Johansson plays a human who loses her humanity to become something more, here she plays a creature who gradually becomes corrupted by living on earth among genuine people and aspires to become human herself (the two films could be considered companion pieces in that respect).

She abandons her mission to engage in ‘carnal’ pursuits, seemingly with the idea that this will help her understand what it is to be human, but her alien physiology denies her the experience: when she tries chocolate cake, she vomits it up, unable to digest it; later she tries to have sex with a man, even though she has no reproductive organs.

Also worth checking out for a scene where a family attempts to rescue a drowning dog with a dead-eyed Scar-Jo looking passively on the unfolding carnage. A scene more bone-chilling than in many horror films.
