Guilty pleasure: went to see 300: Rise of an Empire. The events take place around those of the original 300 film, with Themistocles facing off against the flamboyantly powerful transvestite ruler of ancient Persia.
A bit flimsy on the storytelling side of things, and the ending was unsatisfactory (leaving the way open for another seqel), but the violence did its job for a film that was watchable over all. Bonus points for prolonged views of Eva Green’s (Vesper from Casino Royal) amazing diddies.
I would probably rate it more highly if I hadn’t seen the original 300 nor the Spartacus TV series. I have higher boobs and violence expectations now.

Chasing Mavericks was pretty good, based on a true story about a kid wanting to surf one of the craziest surf spots in the world.
Thanks for the recommendation, Max.
Jeff Clark is one of my heroes, so I’m definitely interested in Chasing Mavericks!
RIP Mark Foo.
I would definitely recommend it, incredible scenery and cinematography. I might take a drive up there since my brother lives in the area just to see it after watching the movie. Great story even if you’re not a surfer.
I had no idea Mark Foo died, I have been a fan since seeing him in the movie North Shore

That was still a pretty classic fuck scene, you have to admit. Hard to tell if he was fucking her or beating the shit out of her.

Mark died his first (and last) time surfing Mavericks.
They think he had the wind knocked of of him during a wipeout, and his ripcord got stuck on rocks/reef underwater. With his lungs empty, he barely had a chance.

Yeah, it alone was worth the ticket price. It actually got the girl I was with quite hot and bothered.
It was funny where it cut to the Immortal guards outside who could hear the commotion.
Just saw Amazing Spider Man 2 ---- Spoilers Ahead.
Steaming pile of shite. Fucking terrible movie.
Had a few good scenes where characters were actually able to develop and the audience begin to understand motivations then BOOM over the top video game bullshit action.
All villain actors are chewing the scenery to no end. The guy who plays Harry Osborne was good to start, probably the best part of the movie but it soon turned to schlock with him too. Rushed into being the Green Goblin for literally a 3 min fight to kill off Gwen - which was well done too as her death was shown to be Peter’s fault. However, the impact Gwen’s death is rather brushed over, like everything else.
If anyone gives this a pass but criticises Spiderman 3 for having too many villains you truly are a fucking spastic.
Additional Rant:
Why the fuck do people like so much shitty over the top action?
Just because the action is flashy or fast paced or has 100 guys doing backflips does not make it gripping. Effective action is what is missing from so many movies these days.
The Star Wars movies are a great example of this. Look at the prequel fights. People say aw man they are awesome, flips and shit super fast sped up crap. It compares horrendously to the Original Trilogy where the fights actually had feelings and motivation behind them. Just compare the Yoda Episode 2 fight to the link below (skip to 2:40).
I’m not generally a huge fan of the genre but I have to second the raid 2 as probably the best action/martial arts movie I’ve ever seen. Best part was i saw it at the Alamo Drafthouse and they had this as part of the preshow Claycat's THE RAID | a Stop motion Animation - YouTube

Extracted - when an experimental technology for living within another person’s memory malfunctions, a scientist’s consciousness is trapped in the mind of the test subject for four years leaving his body comatose.
The volunteer - a convicted murderer- is the scientist’s only means of contact with the real world and his only hope of escape.
A very well-executed, smart indie sci-fi in the vein of Inception and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind.
I watched this movie. It was pretty sweet, the IMDB rating is crap.
I watched this last night on Netflix. Thought it was fascinating. Gave it 5 stars. Thanks for the tip guys.

Just watched 12 Years a Slave over the weekend. Excellent Movie, great performances, very tough too watch. Recently I have watched movies that went on 30 or 45 minutes too long, this movie was perfectly times throughout.
