What is the genus and species of a fetus?
Does that change between the zygote stage and birth?
Other than the Y chromosome, is there a discernable change in the genes of this organism between zygote and newborn phases?

As with literally any topic you can possibly think of, things are defined that way because we say that are. All an attempt to rationalize a crazy universe.

Which I can understand it just not being rational, though not from the people claiming to be standing on the side of science. I admit I crave rationality in the explanation for personal reasons.
Rational just like anything else is what we say it is. 2000 years ago it was perfectly rational to believe the planet was flat.
