Training in a deficit is always shitty. Do you have the capacity to continue eating how you are now, but increasing your activity level to make up the difference - burn more calories? This is known as “G-Flux”

TL;DR: Train more to burn more calories - if you eat in a 500cal/day surplus, train in a way that will burn 3,000cal/day. If you eat the same (maintenance), train in a way that will burn 2,500cal/day.
