My point is that anyone with any balls will NOT give you preferential treatment in the gym based on your size and strength, and that in a public gym setting, you share the equipment, no matter who you are.
Do you even use the power-rack or bench press stations? The reason why nobody asks you to work in may be right there…
…and my point to you is that “ballz” doesn’t have shit to do with it. I know who the serious trainers are in my gym. I can also tell when some guy who only trains once a month is just going through the motions and taking up space. Others can tell this as well.
This is about respect. If I see two stations for lat pull downs being used, one with a guy who I have seen for weeks and can clearly see is working his ass off and has made progress…and the other station houses some 140lbs skinny fat dude making up his own exercise with the pin not even in the stack, can you guess who I am going to ask how many sets they have left first?
We get it, guys like you think your appearance and progress don’t matter at all.
They do.
They always have.
Deal with it.

This is just my observation, so I don’t know if it’s universal or I just happen to randomly notice the same behavior of people in gyms around the country–
The people who normally will jump on a piece of equipment when you’re using it (like if you walk away for to get a drink from fountain) are the folks who look like they don’t visit the gym often. They usually don’t want to wait until you’re done, are afraid to ask to work in, or don’t know how to do something else in the meantime. That may be a little off topic.
If I’m using both sides of the jungle gym, it’s no skin off my back to let someone jump in to do pullups or if someone wants to jump in on one of the cables (if they’re going to put my attachment back). They usually ask ‘how many more sets do you have’. I usually offer to let them work in. It’s just a pin.
I ain’t unloading 10 plates per side off the leg press though. (To be fair, no one has ever asked me to work in on the leg press).
x2 though I think the water fountain jumpers assume you’re done, unless you leave a journal or towel in which case it doesn’t happen.
if people would re-rack, including experienced lifters, maybe there wouldn’t be such confusion.

As I mentioned before, “As long as they’re both busting their ass to make progress , I’d be just as inclined to ask a 300 lb behemoth to work in as I would a 135 pound guy.” I get the respect thing, but it has absolutely nothing to do with how big or strong somebody is.
You seem very content with your appearance and how much progress you’ve made. As somebody who pays no attention to appearance or performance, I lack a frame of reference, but it must be to finally see some muscle separation, even though it took a week of personalized training in Colorado and heaps of blueberry anthocyanin to achieve it.
I’m off to the gym now to do “lunges”. Ever heard of them? Great new exercise that involves basic hand-eye coordination, spatial awareness, and a cardiovascular system exceeding that of a manatee.

LOL
What do you think got me to CO in part to start with? I had fun by the way…and I still don’t do lunges. Car accidents in my life and a military disability are why so have at them. Let me know when they start working for you.
Frankly, everyone at a commercial gym pays to be there, whether or not you respect them or their training their money is as good as yours. Follow the rules set out in your contract and outside of that opinions are like assholes. If you don’t like the atmosphere find a gym you like. Put up or shut up, right? General comments.

This comment doesn’t even fit in this thread. No one is writing that people are getting kicked off machines. I will ask to work in all of the time if the machine is easily switched between two strength levels like a cable. I would NOT work in with someone drastically weaker than me on a machine that requires me to add and remove several 45lbs plates between sets for the other person. That shit is a workout in itself.
My response to the OP still stands. Yes, if you hog equipment, you had better have the presence or physique to go with it or people will get visibly pissed.
People would be less likely to kick Ced Mcmillan off a machine whether they admit it or not.

Sounds fucking delicious…sort of.

My brain says it agrees with you, but my heart says it wants progress to be MANDATORY for gym membership. You look the same as last year, and you aren’t one iota stronger? Get the fuck out. Gym price goes up for every member who are allowed to stay, covering for the fees lost from the “fired” gym rats. Now, the remaining members BUST ASS all next year, and push any newbies to do the same. Prices drop again, gym prospers, and everyone who walks in the door is either pulling their weight or being cut from the herd.
Also, strippers. My gym would need strippers.

Sounds to me like you need a “hardcore” gym. Some people even pay just to ride bikes and zumba. And there are lots of strippers at Xs gym if he still goes to the same one. You’re in the wrong place, can’t fault the nancies with a membership.
LOL.
Yes, we have strippers.
They are also doing way better on breast implants lately than ten years ago.

Actually I have two gym memberships. One at a serious gym which house several competitive bodybuilders, and one right around the corner from where I live, in case I can’t make it to the real gym. The difference in atmosphere is like night and day.

Let me clarify, I mean strippers plying their trade, not getting a workout in. I think I could get an extra rep or two with that going on right in front of me. lol

I used to love that gym. And the dynamo held tryouts on San Felipe, for cheerleaders. Very nice in best Borat voice. Lots of creepy gays clogging the locker room at post oak though. Plus that gym sucked.

No no, see if the strippers catch you slacking, they activate the “punk alarm”, and all of them point, laugh, and imply (in gesture) that you have a small penis.

What if they’ve seen my penis?
And what if you have a dollar?

Then that high income will come in handy! There are always ways to win, don’t be discouraged.

Why would you bring dollar bills to the gym? Now you’re just being silly.
