Char and I have been harping on lazy posters for quite some time. Perhaps we should be inviting you to join the crusade? ![]()
Good idea Light. Let me start the English lesson ball rolling. Using both “you” and “two” in the same sentence when you have already addressed the intended readers is redundant. ![]()
LightandFluffy, you get an F. There’s no such word as ‘pronounciation.’ It’s ‘pronunciation.’ Goodness.
So you not only ADMIT that you’re preoccupied with backdoor lovin’, but you now cop to watching FILMS about it? Bravo young man. You’re brave to come out in such a hateful, hostile world.
Don’t write “their spelling”. Instead use “his/her spelling”. Your use of “thier” is incorrect.
Yeah LnF, you think you’re the first person to address this problem on this forum? HAH! This has been going on for YEARS.
Just in case anyone’s interested, after the last round of correct English/incorrect English debate (the one that was sparked by TEK’s “Public Service” announcement), I decided to take the advice of some of the incorrect-English camp. That advice was, in a nutshell, not to respond to posts that pissed me off because of lazy grammar/punctuation.
So you’ll notice that I never respond to, for example, pugsley’s posts anymore, as well as a host of other lesser offenders. Now, pugs probably doesn’t care about this. In fact, he’s probably glad to have me out of his hair, because when I did respond in the past any advice I gave was liberally laced with pleas/invective designed to try to get him to clean up his linguistic act. So he’s probably actually happy.
But think about it. What if, out of all the people here, I had the answer to one of his questions? And I skipped over his post because he couldn’t be bothered to make it coherent? He’d be the one losing out, wouldn’t he?
If you think about it, ALL of the most knowlegeable/most experienced people on this forum (and I’m not necessarily including myself in their number) use decent grammar. I would venture to say that probably all of them at least sigh in frustration when they have to read yet another idiotically written post. I personally will no longer respond to a post that looks like a 4-year-old wrote it. (At least not in any positive manner.)
Bottom line: You lose out by not proofing your posts. Think about it.
Kiss my non-proofreading rear end. Chardawg, so if I was to misspell a few words you would ignore my posts from that point on? Boi, eye hope I nevar kross you and mak you mad att mi spellin.
Don’t get your panties in a wad. You know what I’m saying. No one’s complaining about the odd misspelled word or two. But there are some people whose posts are so bad that it’s almost impossible to figure out what they’re trying to say. So I’m no longer going to take the time to try. Life’s too short, y’know?
I hate to intrude on this thread because all you guys are having such a great time bickering amongst yourselves, but, having just read Atomic Dog for this week, I think a lot of what was written there can be applied here. Sure, we all are in a rush to type up a response, or a question, from time to time. But–it is important to present yourself with coherence if you want your communication to be read and if you want a response. If you were to apply for a job and handed in a cover letter and resume full of typing errors, misspelled words, run-on and unpunctuated sentences, do you honestly think you would be given the time of day? No. How you present yourself, especially on an anonymous forum, is very important. It establishes credibility for what you have to say. Perfection is not the issue, either. Nobody expects complete perfection on this forum, just enough correctness to be understood. I personally hate wading through posts where the poster could care less about how they sound. These posts are hard to read, annoying as hell, and in my estimation, not worthy or rational response. I may be wrong on the latter, but if you want a response to a question, you need to ask it clearly. So, like Char-Dawg said–take a minute, read over your post and correct the noticeable mistakes. Doesn’t take much time, really.
Look at your own screen name before you critcize someone else`s. My name is mispelled for a reason, because it is a screen name.
