End of CrossFit?

That was a half-joke, but also not really. I’ve revised my opinion of that guy based on new information, and for all I know he could be a terrorist. I didn’t see the need to look up the guy’s biography, so you’re probably right that he is not a terrorist. He’s definitely an asshole.

I’m not trained with riot tactics, but I’ve put my hands on people a LOT. There was no hip and no body behind either the “shove” or the baton guy. I’ve done very similar things in far less tense situations. i.e. one guy acting like that, getting up in your face after you’ve told him to leave. “Make space”.He was told to clear out multiple times and he was fiddling with his hands around a guy’s weapon belt.

Are the cops supposed to stand there and have a conversation with the guy at that point? Hug it out? How many 12 hour shifts had those guys pulled? How much of this guy’s crap are they supposed to stand there and take before they can do the job they got called there to do?

Cops are human too, and they deserve room to do their job without assholes coming up and waving their hands around their gun belt and baiting them into doing something to make them look bad. Somehow we end up with no expectation for even basic decency among anyone who claims to be a “protester”, but the cops must be stoic walls of perfect reactions, no matter the circumstances.

Why in the hell would anyone want to be a cop nowadays, especially in a big city? I suspect this is a problem we will struggle with more and more.

As far as learning about this, I learned about it from @thefourthruffian, aside from reading an article sometime in the last few days. I’ve never had a twitter account. I get a lot of my “breaking” news here. I only follow local news with regularity. Like I said, I had seen pictures before and took it at face-value that the cop shoved the guy way too hard.

The video tells another story. My opinion changed. There’s no shady conspiracies going on here to prop up Trump. Again, I have a hard time understanding why people seem to be upset with me that I don’t write about why I don’t like Trump more often, especially his tweets. There’s no shortage of people here criticizing Trump’s tweets, and I don’t think anyone needs my help with that.

Just because Trump says mean stuff doesn’t mean I’m going to stop being a conservative or suddenly conclude that any of the policies on Joe Biden’s website are things I’d want implemented. Just because he says something I wouldn’t doesn’t mean I conclude Trump’s policies are bad. I wish I wasn’t in this predicament, but here we are in 2020. A good candidate would be nice.

If my policy critiques are off, fine. Argue the policy. Tell me what I’m missing. Explain why this is nothing like the Red Guard at all.

“What about Trump?” is a weak-sauce argument that gets brought up so often it is tiring.

I don’t think this is going anywhere, because my point is not that offering an anti-Trump disclaimer means anything - it doesn’t. I am suggesting that you are looking past the transgressions of one side and focusing on another, and that calling leftists fascists without a solution further divides the country. I’ll say it again - if you are unable to legitimately feel outrage at some of what your side is doing, then I’ll find your outrage at the opposition to be toothless. Acting like fascist douchebags under the guise of social justice is outrageous. Cozying up to dictators, literally, while insulting allies, dead and alive war vets, and your constituents, and designating any negative press as fake news and repeating unverified fake sources as long as they are positive for him are all part of his policy, and that makes it as fascist of a policy as anything else. Ignoring that all the time is a problem.

So no - I don’t accept “Trump says dumb things” as a legitimate critique - it’s just waving it off so you can get back to calling leftists fascists again. Which is ironic, given the left’s propensity to falsely designate all right wingers as fascists.

Anyway, we’re obviously at an impasse, so it seems like a good time to cut this conversation short.

I’ll just chime in and give my two cents.

I cannot sympathize with people that get completely bent out of shape by what another person said. Everybody is always searching for the next statement to get offended by and then lash out, claiming to be “victimized.” Who cares? Whatever happened to the old adage “sticks and stones may break my bones but words will never hurt me?” If you get offended, don’t look.

At the same time, however, I can understand CrossFit distancing themselves from him, as well as Reebok dropping CrossFit. They need to maintain their image and brand.

It’s what the wife wanted. We live WAY the hell up a mountain, get snow on-and-off six months out of the year, and also drive on desert highways at 90mph (going back and forth to El Paso, mainly, but Sante Fe, too). Also giant elk with no sense of self-preservation. Need something to pass Jessie Pinkman as he drives his RV at 55 mph, so we need a big ass engine.Hence, it’s either the AMG G-Class Mercedes or the supercharged RR.

Her family doesn’t like German cars. Something to do with the Holocaust. Also it is so boxy it blew around in the wind when we test drove it.

Hence, the RR. It’s been a great car, 120,000 miles on it in 4 years. So far its be just changing oil, filters, and tires. I was a bit skeptical, but I have an old Defender I love, so I went for it. Love it, really, even if it is too flashy for me.

I don’t know what Trump’s tweet is, except for what you have said. But I know the media (all media) lies or omits facts to fit the agenda of the particular media source.

Hence, I went and looked at the videos.

And, like you, I’ve been through a few crowd control courses. Used them, too, in Iraq. Actually fixed my bayonet once, even, and used it.

If you can send a person who is a foot taller than you flying with a arm-only (no hip, no twist) shove to the lower-midsection of his body, perhaps you are a mutant with supernatural powers, because that defies the laws of physics.

Or, you can click on the video, frame by frame, see the guy bend his knees, and launch his ass backwards, all on his own self.

++++

Just wait to you guys read the final autopsy report. It’s why the officer pulled his plea bargain, I suspect, as it came out right during negotiations.

Good thing they aren’t owned by BMW anymore.

I pictured you as more of a Toyota driver.

I’ve had a Toyota pickup before. They’re OK. Tend towards Ford F250 or Chevy Super Duty for work trucks; just depends on what deal we make for the fleet.

No Dodges, as they fall fucking apart when actually worked, although I am about to go buy a four door Wrangler for the eldest, as it is the official high school car of Ruidoso, NM. Slow, big metal box, 4WD, and can still do cool HS things like take the doors off.

I did. I see a man falling backwards.

I’m glad you took “flying” literally, and ignored the “senior citizen” part, where one’s height combined with bad balance would make them much easier to topple.

I was saying that as a joke because of your experience in the ME.

I had one. After the delete it was a much better vehicle.

Getting back to the topic, this whole particular thing is a crazy overreaction. I can definitely get behind that. Still think people should just not say anything on social media, so I don’t have much sympathy when they try to be controversial and lose big, but this is very dumb, haha.

I just got a new Ram Rebel, with the diesel. I’d love to delete the DEF. I wanted a F250 or 2500 Cummins, but couldn’t justify a 3/4ton driving 40,000 miles a year.

Ahh, I’ve been confusing Castro with Glassman.

From the article, this answers my question:

The details are unclear about the full scope of what Glassman’s involvement with regards to ownership and influence within the company is going forward. If the extent of the change is simply Glassman stepping aside while still maintaining sole ownership of the company, then as the sole owner or even majority owner if he gave up some stake, he would still stand to profit considerably from the company’s future development and legally retain full control of the company at his discretion. It’s unlikely that the move would equate to real change in the eyes of the community, and multiple sources have confirmed as much.

He is the sole owner, according to the article. If I was Glassman, I’d just sell the company and move on.

Is that the ecodiesel? How do you like that engine performance wise? I know the mpg difference is supposed to be huge.

Ya, it’s the Ecodiesel. This is the first year of the new engine. The previous one was blowing up. So far, with 3,000 miles, works well. It won’t win any races, a bit of turbo lag. I actually liked the new Silverado Duramax over the Ecodiesel and F150 Power Stroke, but the interior and comfort was far superior. The largest contributor to not getting the Chevy was the backseat wasn’t enough room for three carseats and my seat all the way back.

I’ve pulled a 2,600lb tractor and ~1,500lb trailer with no issues and got 18mpg doing so.

If you really want to push the 29+mpg, then make sure the gearing is 3.21. The Rebel only comes in 3.92. I average, about 24-25 at 75mph. I’ve seen videos of people getting 28, but that was mostly flat driving. I debated the Laramie, with 3.21 gears, but couldn’t get over the chrome. That and the dealer gave me a COVID special on the Rebel.

Ah, sorry. Those were more targets.

We did a lot of driving in Land Rover 90/110 (the mil-spec kind), various iterations of the NATO G-wagon (same as the LR, but a 5 cylinder diesel, I think), Humvee, various bobtails (including a Deuce and a Half last from Syria (probably – maybe Israel, but made in Detroit) that had to be 60 years old and still going great), various Soviet copies of the 2.5, and the ever-present Chevy Tahoe/Suburban.

Yeah Glassman’s a douche and these additions you’ve added are hardly surprising. The vast majority of people who do lose their jobs over social media actually are racist/homophobic etc dickheads. It’s been known since forever that your social media presence follows you and has the ability to be an issue. This has been taught to kids for years to be careful about what they say on social media.

I have a hard time feeling sorry when awful people lose their jobs because they say awful things. The same thing would have probably happened if they said that on television. A tweet or post is no different. It’s right there for everyone to see. A complete reflection of something you either wanted or didn’t care if the world saw.

Yeah…this was bound to reach a head at some point.

When I saw the guy on “60 minutes” a few year back, my first impression was the same thing.

Will Crossfit Survive? I think so. It’s to large and “culty” to not…and the “boxes”? are individually owned.

Re-brand a little and getting new, large sponsors will keep things on track.

(Doesn’t Glassman suffer from some chronic illness/condition?)

Because by and large it is private citizens engaging is discourse to support or diminish speech and issues they don’t like. I thought this was the standard conservative / republican principle? Let the market decide for itself, right? Don’t like the speech or the company, don’t support it. Republicans suddenly hate “cancel culture” but it’s really just the idea they have been drumming on about for ages labeled as something negative because liberals are cancelling conservatives they don’t like. But it’s all taking place in the private sector, so what is the issue?

Contrast that with Trump today who sent a cease and desist letter to a private company for publishing results of a poll that showed him behind Biden because he didn’t feel it was accurate because of the enthusiasm he is seeing.

So that’s the president of the government sending a cease and desist letter to a private company about something he feels and doesn’t like.

How is THAT not the red guard?

Edit: I thought it was liberals that were easily triggered, and yet the standard bearer or the Republican Party is THE snowflake in chief, always playing the victim card.

This!

In keeping with my suggestion that we call out bullshit on all sides, I had a good laugh at this:

The guy said a bill would “step on the neck” of Coloradans.

Responses he got:
“You are a disgrace to Colorado with your ‘step on the neck’ comment — resign or we’ll throw you out — POS,” one post read.

“I hope people ‘step on your neck’ [at] the ballot box, racist pig,” another read.

Okay, so we’ve established noone can say Floyd’s name with anything but admiration, and now they can’t even use idioms regarding necks without being threatened.

These people are our Donald Trumps. They can be brought up any time we say anything. It sucks, haha.
