Election Day Thread

I’d forgotten about that dchris. Thanks. Trump has a habit of saying the wrong thing, in some backward way. He went to the guy’s ethnicity, or the nationality of his parents instead of just talking about his political bias or something that people might have understood. Maybe I’m remembering his words wrong now, but I’m from NM, several of my Hispanic friends went ballistic over it.

Ha. I don’t think you are. I think he spent a few minutes saying ethnicity and only one line mentioning his connections.

Southern women probably aren’t used to that.

What did she say?

She’s from Seattle. It occurred in this order:
Wha
I
I ca… I can’t believe you
Uhhh
walks away
I can’t even
comes back few minutes later
waves finger

Afterwards, my coworker and the person putting on the trip gave me a glare, followed by a smile. They were tired of her comments all night too.

No, it doesn’t. It is a direct threat to the concept for trading ideas, discussing and learning. I will never support it and it makes my blood boil–as of course I am sure it does for every other person here reading that. You are correct that this is a direct result of the PC movement and in fact there were a number of very concerned academics as far back as the early 1990s. In fact, I would say that PC saw a brief retreat after a horrific spike in the early 1990s and has since gathered its power and come back just as bad, if not worse. Actually way worse really

It’s very American to rise above, you should give it a shot.

I’m glad you brought that up. Trump saying a judge should be taken off his case because he was Mexican is nothing but a lie. It was due to his being part of La Raza. Which is a seriously racists organization

This was my FB status for the day after the election.

Guess who doesn’t care who you voted for? The $20 Trillion National Debt doesn’t care, that’s who.

This article might be the best assessment of the election, the how and why Trump won, and how the media got it so wrong.

Has anyone heard like me on the media (I heard it on the radio) that the promise of preventing muslims to come in the USA and the retrieval of the USA from the Paris climate accord has already been taken out of Trump website?

I heard that the removal was a glitch. Haven’t checked to see if it is back up.

I think I tend to fall more on ActivitiesGuy’s side of this, but I do agree there is a difference between simple prejudice and racism. Prejudices are things we all have, some are good and some are not but they can be overcome with dialog and exposure yes. Sometimes they are borne out of survival experiences–the primary reason why I have more tolerance for things like Police in the ghetto profiling people, or some old vietnam vet. There is very clearly a big line you should never approach, but at some point minor prejudices become (or come from) survival instincts as well. Insert the old quote from Jesse Jackson: There is nothing more painful to me at this stage in my life than to walk down the street and hear footsteps and start thinking about robbery. Then look around and see somebody white and feel relieved"

I would define racism as believing some other type of person is not your equal in terms of fundamental rights and treatment, not necessarily murderous hatred. I don’t define racism based on liking or not liking something. After all I hate rap music and hip hop fashion, but that has nothing to do with a person’s value or their character.

There were a lot of good ones along with a lot of trash. I’ll try to collect some a bit later.

I am sick and tired of race baiting. I am sick of being told I need to do better and better and better to the point of completely silencing me.

This is what happens when you keep calling people things and accusing them of being that which they are not.

The first time they reflect, the second, they wonder, the third they start to get mad and by the one millionth they look for the biggest ‘fuck you’ on earth and deliver it to your front fucking door with a bow.

We don’t like the names and the labels, it’s over. PC is dead, we killed it and we don’t need it. Honesty and politeness is enough. If that’s still offensive tough shit and you do look fat in that dress, like really fat.

Go ‘trigger’ yourself.

These people can’t even have civil discourse, they just cry, whine, and destroy shit. A council woman from Seattle, who is an admitted socialist, is suggesting protesters shut down Trump’s inauguration.

At work management called a meeting and told us not to talk about the election or we could face disciplinary action or lose our job. Somehow I don’t think if Hillary won we would have gotten that speech.

It is seriously like watching a fucking toddler throw a tantrum.

I know there’s tons of “I’ll move to ____” in the last 4 election cycles, and far more partisanship than could be described during the tenure of each administration, but seriously this is the most immature and fucking asinine reaction I’ve personally seen to any election.

That’s fucking bullshit.

I have this bad habit of recording things on my phone. Like meetings, and talk like that. It comes in handy when you need it sometimes.
