Ebola

How can someone be so irresponsible, a doctor of all people.

Either in total denial or haunted by the idea of being treated in a 5th world hospital in EBF Africa.

More important, how can a knowledgeable doctor in a space suit catch it?

Either people are complete idiots or they are lying.

Did you really just go all Alex Jones on us? I never would have thought you’d post a link from there!

Great article on Ebola by the author of The Hot Zone

NY and NJ Set Up Mandatory Quarantine Requirement Amid Ebola Threat

About fucking time some common sense took hold.

Yep. And the first person being held in quarantine is suing based on the grounds that her constitutional rights are being violated. Unbelievable. I say give her the choice of quarantine or return her to Sierra Leone.

She’s a selfish and oxymoronic left-wing kook whereas I am a reasonable one. I cannot believe that Cuomo backed down on his quarantine mandate. And the head of the CDC is against quarantining healthcare personnel returning from ebola-stricken countries as well? Seems like sensibility has gone out the window. I sure hope I’m wrong.

They tried the self-quarantine thing and it didn’t work. It was not adhered to, so now it’s being mandated, and I can’t disagree with it. That moron in NYC could spread ebola like wildfire considering the urban topography.

It’s a fucked situation, but I’m really sick and tired of people afraid to offend other people when it’s our safety at risk.

So, anyone else read The Stand?

Nah, it was just on the Drudge Report. Be awfully hard to keep that quiet beyond a couple of people.

But, yes, I do believe there is a concerted effort to understate the situation for reasons unknown to me.

Follow the fluoride. Eventually it will lead you to the Pearl Harbor false flag operation. Then you will understand all.

Edit: Just to be clear, I saw your post in response to Aragorn re: this. I am mocking Jones, not anybody else.

Yeah, you and I are largely oil and water. Although I’m sure you are a smart and decent man.

Yep. Great book. Actually wrote to Stephen King after reading this book and got a letter in reply. That was a long time ago.

Fair. I suspected there was a reason for it when coming from you

I think I know the reason–they don’t want panic. I don’t think the reason is necessarily shady. The worst thing you can have people do besides not care is go to the opposite side of the spectrum and full on panic.

Ok. I have to convey a marginal mea culpa here. I’m revising my views on the situation and travel ban due to reading a bit more into exactly what we can and can’t get done easily in a bureacracy like ours. I think the travel ban is workable and should be completely implemented contrary to what I’ve implied earlier. I think I mentioned it but if not the quarantine is an excellent measure that–for one tiny instant–shows some common sense in otherwise crazy states

This is a long interview, but extremely–Extremely–informative. Where Does Ebola Come From? - The Atlantic

I still don’t buy the aerosol transmission based on the complete lack of evidence for it in real world outbreak transmission and the stringent laboratory settings for the most recent experiment that came up with suggestive evidence on it (I think that paper is freely available). That said I agree with the point he’s making 100%. And I am doing another revision of my criticism of the CDC to be much harsher than it already was before. I had no idea that the protocols in place were so lax–I was under the impression that the guidelines were more stringent and just being ineptly carried out (although that part is still true, because nurses break contact exposure protocol all the time and when you practice bad habits you get them when you need to stay sharp under threat)

It is not how Ebola behaves right now that worries me, but more to what this bastard will do to survive that concerns me.

Nature always wins. It is not in the business of getting rich, getting (re)elected, being politically correct, or searching for fame.

We don’t need to help it do that with our human incompetence. You do not let something with a better than 50% mortality rate get started doing it’s thang.

Firmly agree there. The only way to stop this though is to kill off the current outbreak of hell in West Africa (but I repeat myself)
