can anyone point me in the direction of people who have suffered mercury poisoning from eating too much tuna?
I’m sorry, I just don’t see it that often, if at all

Just because there isn’t a study doesn’t mean there isn’t a risk. Similar to smoking and lung cancer, you can’t find a definitive study that definitively establishes cause and effect. Epidemiology studies almost always have too many confounding factors and variables to make those kind of conclusions. The best we can do is draw strong correlations or associations.
I’m not asking for a study.
do you know anyone that has fallen ill from eating too much tuna? articles? online news stuff?
how many people here eat fast food? drink? junk food? if so, stop the shit about tuna.
if you don’t do any of that, then maybe you have a leg to stand on for an argument here

Not to sound like a smartass, but where do you think news or ‘articles’ get their information from? Hearing a story about someone getting sick from too much tuna will obviously be anecdotal. Scientific publications are a much more reliable source for information than the news.
either way, numerous sources say that 1 can a day is a safe consumption amount, assuming you’re not a kid or pregnant.
seriously, the people against tuna and mercury, are you the same people that fear heating plastic in the microwave?
Mercury’s a poison. Bottom line.
A poison doesn’t belong in your body, so we as people (and especially as weightlifters) are very careful when it comes to poison that might be in our food.
One other thing to consider is the amount of plastic in the ocean right now… The amount of floating plastic covers some ridiculous area, when this breaks down over time and is ingested by fish that we ingest it’s pretty dangerous.
I don’t eat as much fish as I used to now because of those reasons but I do still like to eat mackerel and tuna every now and then.

so is trans-fat. Do you eat any foods with hydrogenated oils? I bet so.
again, those that are bitching about mercury, are you telling me, you never eat fast food? junk food? beer? trans-fats?

I’m not saying I don’t eat Tuna… So what if I go MacD’s? Many people go and yeah I have a problem that I go there when did I ever say I think it’s a great thing that I go there?
I would say your input is worthless here you read what you want to read buddy.
Jehovaswitness:
I stopped eating fast-food, junk-food, and partially hydrogenated oils in seventh grade, about two years ago. (And I’m 15 so I don’t drink beer!)
I wasn’t satisfied with how fat I was and I was going down a bad track of unhealthyness so I quit all the things mentioned above.
Nowadays, I like to keep things as natural (and organic) as I can, thus trying to minimize mercury intake.
Just eat albacore tuna and everything’ll be fine! haha

You could say the same about aspartame and any of the artifical sweeteners as well.
Aspartame, McDonald’s, and heating plastic in the microwave really have nothing to do with how safe it is to eat a lot of tuna. If you’re not sticking to the topic, then your input is worthless, whether you eat McDonald’s or not.
To avoid being a hypocrite…

This website sums up the basics. For reference 1ppm = 1 microgram mercury per 1 gram tuna.
