Eating Internal Organs

I used to eat 2 x 200g beef liver per week because it is damn tasty, fucking cheap and contains protein.

However, I got concerns that I might overdose on vitamin A. The link to Weston A. Price above recommends 100g of beef liver only once or twice a week.

I find beef liver tastes sandy… maybe I’m not cooking it right?

When I was a kid every friday my mother gave me lamb’s brain to eat. It was sautéed in butter with lots of garlic and parsley. Pure awesomeness!

try starting off with kidney pies or grilled sweetbreads with lemon juice. they tend to be a little more familiar in taste

Well I tried some liver on the foreman grill. Definately different. Not good, but not bad.

Might look for a few recipes to cook it with and it should be fine then. I’ll take it over tuna any day though.

Polar bear liver is my personal favorite! :wink:

I’ve done that. The G-Fu is so hot you can only have it on there a precious few minutes. You basically want to sear it and not cook it all the way through.

When I was a kid Dad would make beef liver by cutting it into strips, lightly breading it and serving it with a couple kinds of dipping sauce, like a chicken strip. I thought the best was some kind of dill shit. Now when I cook beef liver and I don’t feel like really doing it up, I just lightly pan fry it and eat it with a little mayo with a ton of dill stirred into it.

The other good recipe I’ve found for liver I think is a “Berliner” style liver and onions. Just fry up the liver with thinly sliced onion and apple. The apple really compliments the liver.

I agree on the comment about heart. I didn’t even know how to cook it, so I just threw it in a roasting pan like a beef roast and it came out fine.

I also love chicken livers and gizzards.

The only organ meat I’ve tried that’s fucking awful are kidneys. They taste and smell like piss (big surprise) and they leave your pots and pans smelling that way. There’s a reason they’re only 49 cents a pound.
