You all have heard of Falconry, correct? The style of hunting with Raptors/Falcons. It was a small deer. Hell the bird had a bigger wingspan than the deer was long, not exactly a big threat to the birds wings.

I’m guessing the bird was a golden eagle, maybe an axis deer or sitka, they don’t get big, perect target for falconry.
