Thanks to everyone! I will definitely be getting one.
I have an older kindle i got for $50 awhile back. The thing is great as long as you take care of it.
I also tried an audiobook for the first time since I have a long commute to school and surprisingly it is going pretty good. I thought it would be harder to retain or remember because i’m not actually visually reading the words.
Honestly, any reader that
a) is about the size and weight you can/want to manage
b) which can cope with a bunch of formats
c) has a decen battery
Capacity is usually ok with all modern readers. Your full library should be on your pc anyway.
Caveat: The Kindle is definitely the most useless.
Avoid that POS!
a) You can’t turn the backlight off.
While it is a fancy, nice to look at display, we all look quite a bit at [backlit] computer monitors these days.
Maybe if you’re a young, analogue teenager whose fresh eyes only behold trees and squirrels all day?
Chances are your name is not Katniss and the paperwhite device will literally hurt your eyes.
b) the 1984 aspect
Amazon will keep a nice file about it’s subject’s reading lists and habits.
It might even occasionally delete a book.
c) unnecessary proprietary shit
if thats not a copout I don’t know what is?
I can’t simply upload my pdfs and epubs? Browse free online libraries?
Yeah, use a Kindle, I hear it’s awesome.

I do have a Kindle.
While I would like to disagree as to not look like an idiot, he is right, right he is.
Soo right.
Do not get a Kindle.
I have an IPad and have the Kindle, Nook and IBook app that I use.
I normally read a few books a week so I tend to get deals off the Kindle and Nook.
Not tried the library thing yet.
I also now have the kindle unlimited, worth it with as much as I read.

I guess I’m an idiot because I think what Schwarzfahrer wrote is pretty fuckin retarded. Awww do they use proprietary software so you can’t read pirated books, boofuckinghoo ![]()
My Kindle is 6 or so years old at this point and I’ve had exactly zero issues with it. It’s also the most popular eReader on the market, but whatever…

You say this like the government hasn’t been doing worse than this, and basically everything you do on the internet is logged, catalogued and recorded, forever…
I’m not really worried about Amazon at this point. I have a smart TV, 1984 can watch me bang in my livingroom after the kids go to bed…
