and then these jocks hit their 20’s and see their glory days behind them when reality kicks them in the balls

First of all, it’s NOT US football they are comparing the drummers to. It’s soccer. This is a UK publication, so when they say football, it’s really soccer.

So, you’re just as tough as Beckham, then.

No, when we say football, we mean football :stuck_out_tongue:

I take it from your avatar you’re a bass player… The bass player in my band is a good buddy of mine and kick ass bass player and a HUGE football fan and all that. He pointed out the soccer thing too, cause of course I had to send this to him… I simply said to him the next time someone does a study of bass players and athletes to let me know… ; )

Yeah, anyway!!!

I heard about this. Wont let me read the article but i dont see how drumming can be as tough assuming no one plays for 90+ mins…i guess its explained in the article though!

Oh and no i dont play football!

My gigs last 4 hours. I think the metal and fusion drummers have the most intense workouts.

Hell, I’m just a guitar player and I’m exhausted after a 4 hour show.

For the record: ex-hockey, (US)football, rower.

Yeah… If you don’t drum you wouldn’t understand, but… A typical gig for me is 3 - 45 minute sets playing rock music, some shows are 3 or 4 sets, close to 60 minutes each. Not to mention practicing, as well as luggin’ all the crap in and out gig/house. My drum hardware isn’t lite!!!

The road musician’s workout:

A: From practice pad to vehicles:
1 Deadlift subwoofers
2 Suitcase Deadlift and Farmer walk floor monitors, amps, and instruments

B: From vehicles to stage:
1 Deadlift subwoofers
2 Suitcase Deadlift and Farmer walk floor monitors, amps, and instruments
3 Clean and press main speakers up on stage and stands

C: On stage:
4 Jump up and down on stage for 3-4 hours

Repeat A and B in reverse.

Optional: “Workout” with groupies after show.

I do the “reverse” workout with all the gear by my damn self, while the boys do the “optional”.

And you do your drumming sitting down.
It’s amazing how heavy that damn P-bass gets after an hour slung across my shoulder. And the flat wound strings can rip off a callous, leaving a bloody mess of my hands.

But I play rugby. I’m used to the pain of bloodsport.

Oh Man… I feel like I’m talkin’ to my bass player… ; )Yep, sitting down, moving ever single limb, kinda like running in your chair if you can imagine that, but keep complaining about those 4 strings you have to pluck… Kinda like a harpest… ; )

No shit! I like the old-school Fenders, myself.

This is my old '73 Telecaster bass. First year with the Humbucking pickup and forward tilt tuning pegs.

Yeah…but we HIT things! At least we are audible. (I love Metalocalypse)

A buddy of mine has a 5 string Warwick that weighs at least 135lbs. By the end of a set, he looks like Quasimodo.

I want to get big enough that people in the street stop asking me if my bass is heavy!

(But no, I’m not that skinny anymore. The photo’s over a year old.)

Showoff!
