He’s right, one of the main influences of D&B is hip hop. Most of the people who started with D&B came out of hip hop. Especially guys like Goldie. But hip hop isn’t just what we see it is now, D&B came out of the earlier routes of hip hop. If you listen to earlier forms of hip hop from the 80s then you’ll hear the similarities. But some of the main drum patterns are taken from even earlier influences, like that of James Brown.
I’m getting off topic, point is. Drum and Bass is very influenced by hip hop, just not what hip hop is today.
