I know Wikipedia isn’t necessarily correct all the time.
Here’s the DSM diagnostic criteria for substance dependence(or alcoholism when the substance is…dun dun dun…alcohol!)
Substance dependence is a maladaptive pattern of substance use leading to clinically significant impairment or distress, as manifested by three or more of the following occurring at any time in the same 12-month period:
-Tolerance, as defined by either of the following:
-The need for markedly increased amounts of the substance to achieve intoxication
-Markedly diminished effect with continued use of the same amount of the substance.
-Withdrawal
-The characteristic withdrawal syndrome for the substance.
-The same or a related substance is taken to relieve or avoid withdrawal symptoms
-The substance is taken in larger amounts or over a longer time than was intended.
-There is a persistent desire or unsuccessful effort to reduce or control use.
-A great deal of time is spent in activities necessary to obtain or the substance or recover from its use.
-Important social, occupational, or recreational activities are reduced due to use.
-Substance use is continued despite knowledge of having a recurrent physical or psychological problem that is likely to have been caused by or exacerbated by the substance.
So simply saying that drinking on a regular basis means you’re an alcoholic without going into more detail is incorrect.

Given, there are probably a few that drink because a glass of wine is good for you and probably a few that are weak and feel pressure from friends and are social drinkers . But the majority of people that drink on a regular basis do so because they have learned to appreciate the effects of Alcohol.
I would think by definition that would be an Alcoholic. Same as if I smoke Marijuana once a month I would be a Marijuana smoker regardless of the frequency.
