What’s a good amount is widely debated, I personally like high protein(1.5-2grams per lb) some people like Dr. Darden like much lower. As far as how you can find out how much protein is in food, check out an online software like www.fitday.com and check labels as well.
To clarify, what I’m saying is a guy eating an intelligent surplus, but only say .75 grams protein per lb of lean mass will grow just fine compared to a comparably sized guy who eats less, but gets a higher % of protein… generally speaking. I REALLY believe fat is still widely underestimated for both it’s effects on anabolism and it’s protein sparing power.
I don’t believe excess protein is harmful to otherwise healthy people.
None of this is aimed at anybody in particular BTW and it’s just my views. I think some folks may be surprised at how it goes if they swapped a portion of their % of protein for fat.
this is my first post ever, but i have to put out that people need to realize that carbs are far more muscle sparing than protein. therefore, it would be wise to assume that a higher carb intake would indeed be beneficial.
what we need to do is take that information about carbohydrates and apply to what we know works for us. i think what he was trying to point out was that maybe we should evaluate our overall protein intake. maybe it’s overkill and we should stick with 1g/lb. maybe he’s trying to make us realize that carbs aren’t evil like people make it out to be.
we need to look beyond what is written… i think he’s forcing us to think about that rather than telling us flat out to eat a certain way. he’s challenging our views and i like it despite it goes against what i’ve been doing.
All week I think I’ve gotten maybe 100 grams a day, and all my lifts have gone up.
