My dr. won’t even test FT3. He only tests T3, which is scored a 109. The range is 76-180.
I asked to increase from 60mg armour to 120mg armour.
His response: “no. T3 is already upper range”
WTF? It’s actually lower than average?! Can he not do basic math?
Yes this doc is a crap.
Bear in mind if you fail to increase armour sufficiently your hypothyroid symptoms will return with greater strength
I really don’t feel much different that prior to starting. Maybe a little increase in nitetime energy.
I do know low SHBG can be because of hypothyroid issues.
I have some supply built up, so I will experiment on my own with the increase as long as I have supply.
If I still don’t feel much, I will go off. No sense taking it.
T3 is obsolete and so is your doctor, he has been doing things this way for a long time and is showing he can’t learn new stuff and is becoming irrelevant. Testing T3 is no different than only testing Total T and not testing Free T.
T3 is best for diagnosing hyperthyroidism, not hypothyroidism.
I had the same problem with my doc. T3 always too high.
Do not take your armor on the mornings when they draw your labs. T3 will be much lower.
His wasn’t even high though, it was lower than the middle of the range
Sucks you can’t get your own tests @roscoe88. Luckily I was able to and showed my Dr. Then asked for more because I wasn’t feeling relief. That was on 90mg.
I’m now on 150mg. 1.5 grains in the AM, 1 grain in the afternoon. I do feel better than before, but I still think I need more.
There was a thread I don’t recall off hand where a poster talks about going up in dose until you get gittery… That is your upper threshold, then back off gradually until those gitters disappear… Then you have your proper dose. Maybe get some UGL thyroid meds to test this out?
Hope your guy will help you out
His nurse responded a bit ago, something to the effect that said DR is an expert with thyroid and people come from all over to see him.
I also questioned him on why he wasn’t testing FT3. It just made sense, as systemlord explained.
I have too read that your best level is right below feeling hyperthyroid. I’m giving 120mg a go now as I have a lot leftover from last month, and the pharmacy gives the script so early.
Trying to feel good/normal is like pulling teeth with Drs. I don’t get it.
Interesting. Did the PA say whether those patients actually feel better with his treatment? The guy doesn’t even know math, as you’ve pointed out.
Did he give you an acceptable answer? That’s a valid question. Your T3 isn’t really that high.
I’m hoping this helps you. I think it does take 4-5 weeks for the T4 levels to build up, similar to half lives of testosterone. T3 has a short half life, but T4 is longer.
If you needed to, do you have another doctor you could see to help you get this sorted out? So frustrating.
My problem is that I’m from a somewhat small town, and my Dr is right across the Street from my office, which is majorly convenient. And he’s pretty liberal with the test prescription.
I"ll give the 120mg a try for a bit.
I wonder how long it takes for one’s thyroid to bounce back after stopping armour? Anyone have any idea?
I’ve always heard it bounces back quick but I don’t know exactly what that means. I always assumed days to a week or two. Not that my opinion is worth a lot

You should do a thyroid PCT if you wanna come off.
Selenium
Zinc
Vit E
Ashwagandha
L-Tyrosine
Just to name a few. There’s plenty more supps.
Also a thyroid friendly diet will help too.
And or get one of those All-In-One supps to aid in your thyroid recovery.
Plenty of avenues to go through, but i wouldn’t feel comfortable leaving it if its been awhile.
