Islam certainly provides for violence against the infidel unless the infidel is subservient.

Thankfully most people that are labeled Muslims are not true believers.

These facts can only be denied by those who are ignorant or wish to deceive.
These “facts” are only put forward by those who are ignorant or wish to deceive.

I have read enough books on the matter, it is pretty clear cut Islam only allows for peace once it is the dominant religion. All the talk of peace only applies after conquest.
Its like a religious “freedom and democracy” in that regard, isnt it?
I am not sure what you are getting at, there have been plenty of warlike and peaceful democracies. It is kind of a mixed bag. Generally the more powerful a government grows the more aggressive it is, either domestically or internationally.

I was just pointing our that western civilizations never had any qualms when it came to impose their system through force of arms.

Everything you wrote above applies to Islam as well.

It is allmost as if governmnents routinely exploited prevailing belief systems.

In your own imagination, at least.

So, did you convert to Islam for your wife?

The only thing I think of when I see women in headscarves (hijab) is “how do they do that?” Seriously, not a single hair is seen. You never have to have a bad hair day. And some of those things can be beautiful works of art. There was a Muslim woman who rode the same bus as me when I was in Chicago, and she had the most beautiful headscarves with beading and other embellishments. They were beautiful and very feminine looking.
What a lot of people don’t realize is; in the better Islamic countries it is a choice if and when you start wearing hijab. My wife chose to start wearing hijab when she was 16. There are plenty of Muslim females who also don’t wear hijab at all (when their country gives them the choice).

I definitely agree with you that they can be very pretty and feminine looking. My wife has some that are pretty cool!

And to answer your question:

Yeah, I did convert to Islam for my wife. And I have been flamed to hell on these boards for it before.

According to some; I have no solid principles.

But I was not willing to let anything get in the way between me and my wife. I think that says a whole lot.

Gee, I wonder if they would say that if you had converted to Catholicism.

Islam is not a bad religion. It’s the people that make it bad. The conflict between Sunni and Shi’a, the Taliban and their killing people (so called justice) during intermissions at soccer games is what gives Islam the bad reputation. In the 1500s and 1600s (and before) the same could be said of Catholicism with the rampant burning of heretics and the Inquisition. If the different parts of Islam could just agree to disagree, sort of how Christianity has, it would be fine.
Sooo…

It would be good if it were not so freaking evil?

And when a countries soldiers throw fragment grenades at civilians and collect fingers of dead civilians as trophys it doesn’t really help their course too much.
And who is doing this? The U.S. doesn’t directly attack civilians and anybody caught doing so is charged with murder. I am assuming you were accusing the U.S.? War is ugly, but we do everything we can to avoid civilian casualties.
Yep, a dozen US soldiers have just been charged over this. 4 of them for the murders of civlilians, the rest for covering it up and beating up another soldier who reported them.

Even if the murderers get the death penalty, the harm is done. I am sure that this kind of thing is nothing new and is certainly not unique to the US, the modern media is just highlighting how fucked up war is.
I hope you know your argument is a non-sequitor.

They would, because remember, every Catholic is a child raping homo, and we all give money to pay for our victims to not tell.

Quite frankly, good old prostitution would probably work better.
