Double Amputee Killed by Cop

I don’t have a problem with transparency. It’s when ordinary people watch movies and think they have an understanding of how cops should deal with life and death situations. There was an incident which resulted in the death of a civilian. There is an ongoing process to determine what happened, and the results of that process will reveal if the cop screwed up.

Do you think police are guilty until proven otherwise?
With laws being passed prohibiting filming of cops and such, it’s becoming my default stance.
Yea, that’s stupid. My cruiser is equipped with five cameras and I wear a microphone pack so even if I go outside of camera view, everything is audio recorded. It’s more likely to save my ass than bury it.

I don’t like it when some idiot has a camera phone out, though. Things are taken out of context and it gets edited. I don’t want to be on Youtube for doing my job, even if I did it right.

Little brother is watching you too.

And that is a good thing, because you are issued a badge, a gun and a limitless amount of people who will excuse your actions even if you piss on an orphan.

Things must be different across the pond. My actions are always blown out of proportion. The other day I was in a store, not in uniform, and had a complaint about the service I received. I was very professional and polite while addressing it. I went into work the next day and my boss told me he received a complaint about me. She knew I was a cop because I had my uniform dry cleaned there and tried to get me into trouble. What a bitch.

Things indeed are different over here and a lot of things that happen in the US would be literally unthinkable.

However, I would prefer to live in a society where people are able to mouth off to the police or be unreasonably vindictive than to a society where a police officer is beyond reproach.

Unfortunately, us being human beings subtlety and nuance are not our forte.

Even more regrettable is the fact that once you issue a badge and a gun that limited capacity is diminished even more.

If someone has to bear the brunt of all this unreasonableness it should indeed be the police.

They are the buffers between us and our dark side, it is their fucking job.

12 randomly selected people would probably be better than 500,000 who clicked on something with “Police brutality etc…” in the title. It’s possible that some of those people may have formed some bias ahead of time.

FTR I have no idea if this deal was righteous or not (how could I), but the headline sure sounds bad as a sound bite. Glad I’m not in the media relations division of that PD…

Yea neither do I. I bet the media cop is relieved the guy was white though. Phew! People get more worked up about a Beagle getting lit up than a white guy.

Edit.

Poor taste.

Yea, everyone loves fire-fighters until they go around issuing non-compliance fines for houses with faulty or non-existent smoke detectors. It’s not all Dalmatians, savings cats from trees, and flooding basements.

I don’t have a problem dealing with the scrutiny of the public while I’m in uniform. But don’t fucking give me a hard time while I with my family because you were texting while speeding and got a ticket (I HATE giving out tickets and will only do it if someone is blatantly being STUPID).
I personally have no authority to issue fines.

Ironically, the public drive to education about fires has drastically reduced the number of structure fires to the point of being rare. I’ve personally only been in 2 structure fires in about a year of volunteering (out of probably 200 calls). Most of what we do is car wrecks and medical calls. Which is why I went and got my extrication certification and am working on my EMR certification. The running into a burning building to save little Timmy thing from the movies virtually never happens.
