the same thing that happens in all mexican arrests.
he probably paid officials a few thousand dollars.
hell, go to cancun over spring break. you’ll be arrested like three times in a week. you’ll never see a squad car though. give the policia’s all the money in your pocket (keep most of it in your underwear. seriously.)and you are un-arrested just like that.
some times they check your socks if you are wearing any too, so your underwear is your best bet.
a buddy of mine was approached by some random mexican on the cancun streets, the mexican grabbed my buddies hand, stuck a baggy of coke in it and ran off.
a cop “happened” to see the “transaction” from his “random” position and confronted my bewildered, gringo buddy rather than chase the mexican with the drugs. he shook him down for over $450.
i’m sure it would have been more had he had it, as well as less had he not coughed up his hiding places so easy. but who can blame him? i hear mexican prisons are the worst.
