Does My Son Need a Hearing Aid?

Hi all,
My son, who is a 7-year-old boy have a problem in his audibility. We had noticed it recently and had consulted his in a hearing evaluation clinic at Toronto ( https://www.hearingsolutions.ca/ ). They recommended a hearing aid for him. Which type of hearing aid is best for a 7-year-old boy? I wonder whether this disability will affect his self-esteem or any of his classmates tease him because of this. Does any invisible type hearing-aid suit him? Or Is there any alternative solution for it? Any suggestions will be appreciable. Thank you in advance.

Here in the US, your school district may have an audiologist on staff who should be able to consult with you, give you another opinion. Large districts sometimes have a full-time person, smaller districts sometimes contract out for these services.

Depending on the size of your school district, there may also be a good Deaf and Hard of Hearing Specialist who should see lots of kids and can help you learn the ropes, or refer you to a parent’s group for DHH kids, or at least give you some names of other parents who’ve been through this with small kids.

The speech and language specialist at your son’s school should be able to point you in the right direction. You may also want to have them screen his speech to see if there’s anything you need to address.

Here in CA, our medical insurance also has a pediatric audiologist. It sounds like you may need to consult more with them about your options. They should also know about local parent groups.

Call me crazy, but I think the hearing evaluation clinic could probably answer ALL of those questions better than random strangers on a bodybuilding forum.

Hearing impairment isn’t a specialty for me.
And I’m not familiar with Canadian schools or healthcare.

Some areas here in the US have private peds clinics, often with funding from an endowment to provide services to kids.

I will say, finding some local parents from a DHH program can be really helpful.
They’ve already been where the OP is now, know the good local specialists, will know how to navigate the medical system, have tried stuff out…
