Does Anyone Else Here Collect Guns?

Man, I very nearly walked out of a store with a 3" K6s a few months back. Decided it wasn’t the right call at the time and that is not a glowing endorsement haha.

It’s a pretty gun like most Kimbers, but beyond that it’s garbage.

Good to know. The looks/size/capacity combo seemed right for a carry revolver, but I’ve been wrong before.

YankeeMarshall is one of my favorite YouTube guys. He’s a huge revolver and Kimber fan and even he was disappointed in it.

Welp, unless I can get some personal experience with one of my own before buying it I’ll probably scratch that one off the list.

Everybody is different though. You may love it.

Plenty of better carry revolvers though in my opinion that are cheaper too.

I hear some people like their kimber revolvers. It’s a great concept, 6 shot, small enough to pocket carry. But their quality control is shit. Ron Cohen who ran Kimber into the ground, and is now running Sig, apparently realized that most people who buy guns don’t actually shoot them very much.

So if I part that should hold up to tens of thousands of rounds breaks after a few hundred, most customers would never even notice. Which is why if you buy a firearm for defensive purposes you really need to shoot it a lot to make sure it functions.

One time on this forum I urged someone to buy a case of 1000 rounds of target ammo to go with a new firearm. Really, that should be factored into the cost when you make a purchasing decision. Someone chimed in with “You don’t need that much ammo!” Which I pointed out the 1000 rounds is for practice, evaluating the function of the gun, and hopefully getting some training, to which, a 1000 rounds probably isn’t adequate.

But it’s not like someone on a forum would chime in without having any idea what they are talking about.

When I buy a new gun I as soon as possible run 500 rounds through it - a lot more if it’s something I’m going to be carrying or depending on for self-defense.

I’ve got 200 rounds of .38 special and 250 rounds of full-house .357 for my first batch of ammo to run through the new Python, which should arrive next week. I’m excited to gain basic proficiency with my first revolver. I also like the idea of ammo versatility without worrying about ammo reliably cycling the action.

With my 9mm autos I just made sure they all cycled 100 rounds of my carry ammo, which is Speer Gold Dot 9mm 124 grain +P. Thanks Mr. Ayoob! Beyond that my 9mm’s all eat plenty of 115gr FMJ standard pressure loads.

I always factor in a decent amount of ammo for any new firearm I buy that I’m serious about learning how to shoot.

If you want a round that duplicates your 124 +Ps in recoil and point of aim - point of impact, Sellier and Bellot 124 grain runs about 1200 fps and is excellent all around ammo. If you’re OCD about that shit like I am.

I agree. Sellier and Bellot is good ammo, been using it for years for training ammo.

Definitely good stuff.

I have yet to shoot any of these.

I’ll help you break in the barrels…

These too? ALL still haven’t been shot. I am falling behind.

Still trying to get optics on everything - costing me a fortune and I like trying new ones even if they turn out sucking ass.

I let my local buddies borrow and shoot anything I have as long as they clean it before bringing it back

That’s a great point and I’m probably guilty of underestimating the importance of training with target ammo that’s as close as your carry ammo as possible.

I’m still working through the thousands of rounds of 9mm 115 gr I bought years and years ago when I got a deal on bulk Winchester white box for something like $0.15 per round. Luckily I’m still sitting on about 800 rounds of Speer Gold Dot 124 gr +p JHP that I picked up from SGAMMO at around $0.40 per round many years ago as well. I don’t recall seeing it for under a buck per round since.

I’m not rich, but I can afford to practice with ammo that’s better suited to my goals with my carry pistols.

Much to my dismay, SGAMMO will no longer ship to Maine for some reason.
