Dodgin’ Dadbods: Fortitude Training

Well, labcorp lost my son’s blood.

Sorry to hear that. I hope they’ll make speedy amends. And suck less in the future.

What a pain the arse!

Hows he doing?

His hip is still weird, making him walk weird. X rays were negative, so they’re not quite sure what’s causing it, hence the tests, but he’s in good spirits generally and it’s hard to get him to stop running, both of which are good signs. Just want this over with.

Just read your other topic about your son, really shitty situation. I don’t have kids so I probably can’t relate so well but I really wish you all the best.

Not gonna lie, this would send me into a blind rage.

Don’t care too much if people lose my bloods, but if anyone lost my boys I’d be hitting the roof.

Dude that’s lame! So will that just have to do a re draw? Sorry man. Kids hate getting blood drawn. Prayers for a speedy recovery…

On the training front how do you decide what weight to do your last deadlift set with? I’m assuming that the 2x26 is an AMRAP set

As someone who has a kid or two terrified of needles, I imagine the worst part may be the whole idea of having to put him through that again. If nothing else, here’s hoping all is well with the little bugger.

You have every right to be fuming, I would be doing my nut in.

My nephew had a very similar thing. It was at his 4th birthday actually at his party. Started walking with his leg all twisted, kinda turned in and dragging it, running around not in pain and not being able to explain the funny walk.

Went up to A+E where they did scans and blood test for all sorts of worrying things. Every thing came back clear and the only explanation given by the specialists was potentially some new shoes causing him to adopt strange walk that then stuck, subconsciously this was then embedded for a while. It had a name but cant quite remember it (something pidgeon foot).

It went back to normal after a week or so.

Sucks he has to have more blood drawn, it’s my biggest phobia! I feel for the little guy having to do it again due to someones fuck up.

It’s just a weight that on my way up to my work sets feels pretty light, and by the time I do my work sets and drop back down it feels super light. Usually dropping a plate off my work sets in whatever exercise is a good metric.

Chest
incline benches were taken and I had to be in and out to get my son from the bus and take him for bloods again

Incline flys 25s 3x10

Cybex Chest Press
This thing is pretty sweet, it’s a machine chest press, both arms move in unison, but if you squeeze really hard the handles will move inwards as you press. If you just press it follows a straight out and in path, but the machine is designed that if you squeeze the ever loving fuck out of it, the handles will touch at the top, and it’s hard to get them there.

Something tweaked in my ankle on the way to the gym. Right in front. Still keeps twinging even as I sit down. Made for a very uncomfortable workout and walk there and back. Now I have to go stand on concrete for 8 hours for work. Whee!

hip air plane rolls has a nice effect on the supporting foot, might be worth a shot

Did them today before deadlifts, hadn’t put much weight on the foot beforehand but had zero discomfort and none since, so it either healed or they helped, but thanks anyway!

You could probably get away with just deadlifts and leg extensions or leg press and have a pretty solid lower body session consistently.

@Frank_C, take notes.

Did you see my seven minute session on Thursday?

In a little over a week, my leg session will be the Daily Dose of Squats, deadlifts 3x8 or 5x8 (on pull days), leg press 100 reps, and bodyweight RFESS (sets and reps will be determined by the effects of leg press).

I might even drop the leg press. It’ll take a couple weeks to get a feel for how the squats affect me.

The daily squat program I tried a while back was literally the most painful thing ever. My hips and adductors immediately began to hurt after just a few days and got worse and worse. 0 chance I ever squat daily again, haha.
