Got one this morning at car boot sale for a quid!
Are they sturdy enough? I see people falling all the time but then again I suppose they just didn’t set it up properly
I got you bro.
I think the ones that fail extend out into cups you fit inside the frame. I’ve got one that braces on the top of the door’s frame on the other side from the bar/handles. I’m 200lbs and it seems very sturdy.
Thanks for the translation!
It was after reading a previous post of yours, about doing hundreds a day, that inspired me to get one. I’m stuck at about a 10 rep max so think I need to just try and do loads every day.
If you’re at 10 reps, I’d be doing 50-60 most days. Just pay attention to your elbows and shoulders. And you don’t have to go to total failure that often- there’s a big neurological efficiency component of pull-ups. It’s why I always poo-poo most suggestions people give for carryover, like pulldowns and inverted rows. Pulling your bodyweight up is a unique demand on the body and plenty of people have the strength to do it, but their bodies are not used to that demand. Get used to doing them frequently and you’ll start flying up.
I have one like @boyce79 that’s strong enough to carry my hundred and fatty pound self. Chews up the paint on the door frame though. I’m sure you could get better ones or find solutions to that.
If you could find somewhere to attach rings, also dirt cheap and easier on the elbows in my n=1 experience.
But yeah, the secret to doing lots of pull ups at fairly normal weights is to do a lot of pull ups. I really don’t think there needs to be much of a plan or progression model to it, other than to make sure you’re doing a lot.
Alright, got it! Thanks guys!
Side note: yeah I had to look up what quid meant lol
That’s a good one

I think moving your own ass through space is a necessary skill for all mankind. It seems like one of the basic survival skills.
Also, I find that if I do too many underhand, my forearms act up, if I do too many neutral, my elbows act up, and if I do too many overhand, my shoulders act up. So rotate through the grips regularly. They’re all good for growth and strength.
If you think pull-ups are useful, wait til you’re hanging one leg off a pier with the other leg on a ledge in an ass-to-grass squat, but in the water below are sharks jumping up so you can’t hold your leg down and instead have to hold it out in front of you like a pistol, and you have to stand up. Boom.
Dang flap, that’s pretty low of you to even mention pistol squats to @Frank_C ![]()
It’d be easier to stand up after losing half a leg. Better make sure my pull up strength is good enough to hold on while the tissue and bone breaks.
Not as low as a properly executed pistol squat.

Went to the beach today with friends. Had an absolutely AWESOME time. Got out there at 11 am, did a ~800m swim in the open water, and then drank beer and ate homemade jalapeno poppers, grilled salmon, hot dogs, and homemade redskin potato salad, then came home and walked 3 miles with Alfie, and my 4 year old kept up for all 3 miles! halfway through the walk we stopped at the park pullup bars/sit-up station that our town has, and my son and i both did 20 crunches and 20 pullups (I obviously helped him with the pullups but he can pretty much do 1 by himself at this point), and then we walked back, running the last half mile. The kid’s a beast and I’m very proud of him.
Yesterday:
Giant set of DB press, rope crunches and laterals x3
Giant set of OHP, pull-ups and upright rows x3
Giant set of skulls, pushups and reverse grip extensions x3
Only had 35 minutes.
Haven’t updated in a few days but it’s race week so I’ve just been doing some LISS and lots of mobility work. Half mile swim/12 mile ride/3mile run on Sunday at Patriots Triathlon Festival in Williamsburg VA. This one has a beer tent, so I’ll pretty much just treat the race like I’m running towards that the whole time and I’ll be fine.
Good luck Flap, hope you’ll be doing good.
Remember you can save lot’s of time in the transition area.
Good luck for today man, enjoy the beer.
