Yup! That’s the one. Misread it at first and did 5 days in a row which is why I’ve been nursing a strained ring finger (or possibly a stress fracture) since day 5. But it’s healing and my grip is skyrocketing.
Visiting family back in the Bronx. Kids were outside and I had to keep waiting to start my sets to avoid hitting them with a cast iron kettlebell. Got the swings in, though. Not pushing for any PR’s this weekend, just family time.

Get some bro! I’m 100% decided on DC training after I finish this so I’ll be right there with YOU soon enough.

Still on vacation. Getting my swings in and sweating like crazy still, but not killing myself. Up to 212 from 210 because New York has the best egg sandwiches, bagels, and pizza in the country, so that combination is not conducive to fat loss, but only 2 lb gain is fine, I’m keeping today low on the calories.
I read up on DC training this morning and it seems to be very similar to the things being discussed in Paul’s thread. I think the splits and nutrition make it a little more of a specific program instead of concepts. As with most training, I’ll steal what I like and ignore the rest.
Yep! I’m not going for 420 g of protein. I understand that Dante knows best with this, but different people respond differently to super high cal diets, and I put on fat quickly. @kd13 was cutting on it, so I can definitely run a super lean bulk. The only caveat is that if I’m not down to visible abs in the next couple weeks I may continue to cut. Fortunately DC is 3x/week so I have plenty of time for LISS and metcon!
Yeah it was only a short agressive cut, 3 weeks top, I dont think I could have stuck with it for much longer at 1500 cals. Even now with a surplus I’m really sore after every session which is weird for me, I believe that’s the stretches causing that.
Link I posted vanished, can a mod advise a way to share this info without breaching rules?
Down near the bottom of the post (link got deleted) there is a bit about cutting, he prefers not lowering cals much, strict no carbs after 6, no dairy and using cardio to get the fat off.
Everyone is different but it’s hard to argue against the effect of carbs on body comp. I was able to eat carbs before bed while I cut this year so I’m not going to cut them out completely.
My new approach (even for maintenance) is going to be to eat meat and veggies without direct carbs as much as possible. I’ll intentionally eat carbs around workouts, but that’s it.
If I get that carb fueled deep hunger in the evenings then I’ll eat carbs. Overall, I think I can keep my carbs close to 150g per day or less with the exception of those bad days.
My main problem is the social aspect. My wife made banana bread for breakfast today. She made pancakes from scratch two days ago. I’d prefer to avoid carbs early in the day like that because I tend to be more hungry throughout the day and end up eating around 300g of carbs. But declining those things crosses into the realm of letting my training/nutrition interfere with normal, sane living. And these foods are darn good!
@flappinit, I just wrote out the program I referenced earlier. It’s a push/pull split. I broke the DC rules and moved exercises around to fit my split. I have three A days and three B days. I selected three exercises per muscle like DC.
It’s six weeks of 350 sets followed by six weeks of DC style rest/pause sets. It will allow me to have heavy phases and lighter phases on the same movements.
I’ll still probably follow my total body maintenance program until I’m done with this shoulder recovery, though.
If you listened to every opinion on carbs and timings your head would explode! It’s so conflicting that just doing what’s best for you is always going to be the better option, the changes to physique will be minimal but the changes to your social life and mental wellbeing will take a hit.
I ate majority of my carbs in the evening. I could say due to cortisol reduction and production of sleep hormones ect, but that would be a lie. I train in the evenings and I like eating real food with my family!
Can you write a description of what to google to find the deleted link? Interested to see.
That’s the one @flappinit, thanks @boyce79
I searched ‘red beetroot powder dante trudel’ so found it by chance.
Still on vacation in New York. Pulled a @jackolee and woke up sick with one day left of vacation, but called my job and asked for tomorrow off too so I can travel and then relax tomorrow evening. Still though - that means I’m going to be doing 500 swings sick as a dog tomorrow, plus being hungover because it’s our last night of vacation and it’s my brother in laws bday, so I’m already a couple glasses of whiskey in. Gotta pull a @isdatnutty -in-Vegas and earn my drinks. Although I spent years in the Marines doing squad workouts while still half drunk, it’s been a while.
100 burpees in a row to earn that bourbon big dawg!
Woke up and realized I left my kettlebell at my moms house and we’re at my wife’s moms house, so we’ll have to pick it up on the way back to Virginia. Will be a long, crappy drive, and I’m still sick, and now hungover, and I’m supposed to do swings when I get back home. Jesus.
Zero pukes man, you got this.
Man from my experience pushing through workouts while sick does two things…
Guarantees a crappy workout, and keeps you sick longer. Just get better and then hit it hard when fou actually feel good. I’ve done way to many workouts sick or not recovered because that’s what the schedule called for and I didn’t want to wuss out.
I may not do them, only because doing 500 swings after sitting in a car for 9-10 hours is a recipe for back problems. The 10K swing article says you can take an extra rest day each week if you want anyway, so you can finish it in as little as 29 days or as much as 34. I was on pace for 29, but 30 will be fine haha. Honestly I just want to get these 6 workouts over with. It’s only been a few weeks but after 7000 swings I’m a liiiiiittle bit sick of them.
