good luck mate, as someone who used to drink lots and now who drinks very very rarely, I applaud you.
Behold: perfect chicken pot pie. Holy shit it was amazing.
Had a CT scan so didn’t eat all day, got home and banged out 100 burpees before my body forced me to eat my first meal for the day at 5 pm. Leftover salmon and lemon pepper noodles. Still room for some more of the chicken pot pie later, too.
Thanks dude, it sucks how ingrained alcohol is into every facet of society. As it turns out, none of the several neighbors we hang with (they have kids the same age as ours) drink, which is a real anomaly, so it’s not hard to avoid around my house. I just have a few friends who drink, so it can be tempting. Overall though it’s just starting to make me feel unwell and unhealthy, and it would be cool for my kids to grow up not really having any memories of me drinking.
After a little while away from the drink I really started to notice this. The psychological power of alcohol over people from years of social brain washing is intense. Want to relax you need a drink, want to hang with the boys then its time for a beer, want to watch sport you have to have a drink, bad day at work a drink will make it better, celebrating a milestone moment you need champagne. When you are the outside looking in it is plain to see, but when you are inside no chance.
oh and that chicken pie looks amazing
I think it’s pretty relevant. I probably squandered a good five years of gains in my mid 20s because I was more concerned with booze than recovery from training. That kind of shit is eye opening a few short years later.
I could also see myself doing exactly what you laid out in that post wrt to the slippery slope. It’s real easy when you enjoy the taste of beer, bourbon, and tequila haha.
Battle ropes and jump rope came in yesterday.
Workout today after work:
30 minutes of rope skipping, every 3 times I hit my feet and stop I do one of these rotating exercises:
5 ring pullups
10 pushups on handles
30 seconds of battle ropes
5 navy seal burpees
Finished with bear crawls up the yard, crab walks down the yard, 10 burpees, 5 rounds
100 fasted burpees during lunch break today
First food at 5:30 PM with a protein shake
Then a workout consisting of:
30 seconds of alternating arm battle ropes
10 battle rope double arm slams
10 continuous clean and press with 65# BB
5 chin ups
20 bicep curls
X5 rounds
Pushups with 15# DBs - 10, rowing one arm after each pushup
20 KB swings with 50# KB
X5 rounds
5x1min full plank
Now time for cilantro lime rice and homemade chili.
Few mile walk with Alfie tonight. Feeling great, planning on waking up at 5 am to get another long walk in with the dog.
Another 100 burpees during lunch break.
Small bowl of chili, rice and shredded cheese afterwards. Home soon, small protein shake, workout, then cooking a roast beef to make a nice roast beef sandwich tonight with protein rye bread, Swiss, lite mayo, thin sliced medium rare beef and some salt + pepper. Maybe some banana peppers if I feel like taking it to the next level.
Workout:
8x3min rounds heavy bag work, 1 min rest between rounds spent jump roping
Had plans for more but kids wanted to work out with me so I just set up a circuit of KB swings, jump rope, pushups, and pullups and we did that for a while. Mowed the lawn afterwards and sanded a bunch of drywall inside.
Roast beef sandwich was amazing.
There are not many things in life as satisfying as a good sandwich ![]()
Warmup:
5 mins jump rope
Workout:
50 navy seal burpees
40 pullups
30 2-count flutter kicks
20 leg raises
10 bear crawls the length of the yard
Navy seal burpees suck. 50 seemed like it wouldn’t be a big deal, but they’ll humble you quick.
Starting a new log tomorrow.
