Dodgin’ Dadbods: Fortitude Training

Yeah, I have a ton of stuff going on, it’s nice to not have to think about what I’m gonna do. I made a quick spreadsheet with all the percentage calculations, so I can just plug in a new TM each time and be good for that month.

I’m in on this too.

Today:
Woke up to pretty decent snowfall, especially for VA. Nobody but us has a snow shovel so I dug out my house and walkway and a few of my neighbors. Then went sledding with the boys, bunch of times up and down the hill. By the time we came back and dried off the snow had made a thick layer again so I shoveled everything again, then went to the gym for squats, thoroughly warmed up after ~3 hours of activity.

Got a 96 on my A&P exam. Most of the class bombed it, I don’t think they paid the teacher much attention when she explicitly said, “if you don’t study a lot you will bomb this exam”.

You’d be surprised how many of them studied and still bombed the exam. I used to think like this until my diff eq midterm last semester…

I just do not know how to study. I really don’t. I’ve been lucky enough to just kinda get by and do okay, but I respect it when someone will sit down and make themselves learn material better.

Having a fam and a job on top of that is a whole ‘nother challenge. Been cool seeing you succeed at this aspect of your life as you work towards a goal, dude.

Thanks dude. It was a tough weekend, but I managed somehow to get in ~3-4 hours of studying for 3 days in a row while keeping my kids alive, so it was a success. Not really looking forward to doing that for 4 more tests but it is what it is. I appreciate the solidarity.

Being a real adult is honestly like cheat codes when it comes to education. You have the maturity and experience to be able to effectively prioritize, manage time, and actually get into the books. Which is great, because you need all that to survive the workload on top of the other adult things you need to do. All that to say: you’re crushing it dude.

How you finding those SSBs @flappinit mate?

I can’t ever see me going back to a conventional back squat

I warmed up on a straight bar today, just to see how the position felt, and my shoulders felt AWFUL, like they were gonna pop out of the sockets. I feel the same way, dude - I don’t know that I ever need to use a regular bar again. It’s a lot more quads and mid back, which is great because my deadlift is narrow stance and nearly straight-legged, so it’s all hams and is a great compliment to it.

There you go attacking my only ego lift! That’s some strong work. :muscle:

I’m lazy and wrote Deads - I do high handle trap bar Deads, although my gym’s trap bar has handles that are very low, only about 2 inches above regular bar height, so it’s not a full on straight bar dead - thought I should clarify. I continue to be great at rep work and poor at 1RM work, but 500 is coming soon. 420 flies off the floor at this point.

That’s still a strong effort. I think some people can use more quads on the trap bar and almost treat it like a squat. I’m not one of those people - that would actually make me worse at the lift since I’m posterior chain dominant.

Yeah, I do not squat the weight up. The only time I use my quads at all is when I pull myself down to initiate the lift, but after that it’s basically an SLDL. I used to do the “perfect” looking TBDL and kept getting injured. Now I do ugly looking ones and I feel great.
