Dodgin’ Dadbods: Fortitude Training

Sorry to hear that, best wishes.

And same to Flap.

On my third set of 50, held my breath a bit too long, started to black out, leaned forward and half stumbled, lost all tightness, kettlebell swung down and at an awkward angle, totally felt a tearing sensation in my right hip. Tried to push on, but realized pretty quickly it could be a bit more serious than it initially felt, so I dropped it, went home, iced up. Lifting my right knee is very uncomfortable. Oh well, hopefully this clears up in a couple weeks.

Sorry to be a downer folks, besides the stuff with the wife things are actually okay and I’m about to take my kids to the playground, can move around and loosen up - no need for more sympathy about a muscle pull, haha. I’m learning to be more accepting about them and focusing on not being a mopey pussy about things hurting. Better to just start the process of moving through and focus on something else in the meantime.

K, limbered up at the playground. Things feel a bit looser. Pain has localized to what I believe is the iliacus. Really deep in there. Some more ice later, and will do some stretching and foam rolling - though no stretching of the actual injured area, just the muscles around it that could contribute to extra tightness.

I’m sure you’ll be doing Murph in no time.

Why Murph? We all know that the fastest way to heal an injury is max effort trap bar deads :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

Murph is more his style of suffering.

Fasted all day, drank a protein shake at 6 pm and headed to the gym. Attempted a couple swings to see if I could loosen up and push through - nope, not a chance, sharp pain. Didn’t aggravate it fortunately, but it was a clear “nope” from my body.

Got a good chest workout instead.

Supersetted flat bench with pull-ups, then did an incline cable chest press on the free motion machine with drop sets, then pec deck drop sets with pushups. Finished with cardio on the assault bike and loosened my hip up some more, felt alright by the time I left.

Fortunately I’m pretty zen about the hip right now because I just adjusted my goal to that of getting lean as shit, and as long as activity levels are maintained and I’m hungrier more often, I’ll be losing weight.

Found some nice low carb wraps with 5g net carbs for my chicken tacos with pico de Gallo and pinto beans. Filled up very quickly after a day of not eating. Will have one more protein shake in an hour or so. Going to go back to fasting most of the day except instead of a protein shake at 6, I’m going to bring and eat a nice-sized meal at 5, hit the gym at 630-7, meal after, shake with just water and protein after that.

Excited to see how the getting lean development goes. You’re awesome at doing the things that get you to your goals.

Low carb wraps/tortillas rock. The ones made of cauliflower and egg whites are a bit underwhelming. They don’t really hold form well. But the 5-6 net carb tortillas totally answer the mail.

If you have a Costco, I highly recommend the keto friendly bread/buns as well.

I don’t mean to gush or be sappy, but this, to me, is about the best compliment I could get. So thank you. Today was day 1, and my main motivation was feeling like I busted my ass for nearly half a year by doing, doing, doing, and now, to lose weight, all I have to do is not do, which, when framed like that, is a walk in the park, and a further testament to the fact that fat loss is so, so, so much easier than muscle gain.

Also, run-on sentences are easier than sentences.

I regularly get to the end of a paragraph and realise it’s just one, long, rambling sentence.

Plus, it’s going to be fun seeing all the muscle you’ve built.

Today was BB OHP, 5x5 with 165# superset with 5x10 pullups - pullups are feeling SMOOTH and easy again as I near the 220 mark, waist is already seeing some difference in appearance. Did some chest work as well and lateral raises, then hit abs for leg raises with a DB between my legs, swiss ball crunches, decline crunches and V sits, and finished with 10 rounds of 2 minutes on 30 seconds off boxing on the wrecking ball heavy bag.

Mate that would have been a brutal session. 10 x 2 min rounds on the heavy bag is a full conditioning session for me. To do those presses and pull ups first was slightly mental. Quality

Thanks man - boxing is super cathartic for me, the more tired I get, the grumpier I get. The grumpier I get, the angrier I get. The angrier I get, the harder I hit. The harder I hit, the more tired I get, and the cycle continues, haha.

I know there’s a lot happening on your end Flap so wanted to stop by and ask how things are going.

I appreciate that, dude. I started school this week and managed to knock out all my week 1 work by Wednesday, which was fortunate because my sister visited and my job was crazy busy and I had to work a lot of overtime. All my workouts have been calisthenics this week, so it’s been a bit of a deload, and today my mom came so everything’s even more hectic, but everyone’s gone by Monday and the plan is to jump on 5/3/1 starting then and push my conditioning until I lean out. I haven’t regained any weight but my diet, despite being clean, has been all over the place in terms of total calories and my body seems to be so confused it’s just staying put.

Thanks again for checking in, I’ll be back at my normal routine soon, just prioritizing the important things as they come around.

K, family’s all gone. Did a great 5 mile hike yesterday in Charlottesville with my mom, sister, and my two kids. Some nice steep climbs along the way, the 5 year old actually made it the whole way, I had to carry the 3 year old for about a mile downhill, so I’m feeling that today. Getting back to the gym today. Been a week out of it and I’m looking forward to it, just have to knock out a few hours of school work this morning.

Sounds really nice man. Aside from the cardio

Haha I feel you, dude. Hiking in the outdoors breathing crisp air with family is light years away from running on a treadmill, though. It’s hard to put into words how happy I was yesterday. Especially when the hike finished and we went to a brewery for beers and burgers topped with cheese, bacon, and a fried egg and loads of fries.

Sometimes it’s the little things that are the best. Especially a bunch of good little things. If you can string enough together in life i think u got it pretty good.

How’s ur course structure look like. Bit of theory then into practical/professional placement?
