Doctor Wants To Put Me On Testosterone?

IM 6ft tall 175 lbs @ 20% body fat. Last year I was Diagnosed with Non Hodgkin lymphoma. Before my treatment started I actually asked the Dr to give me a Testosterone level check, it came back at 174 ng/dl. I asked the Cancer Doctors about this and they said they would refer me to a specialist after my chemotherapy was done.

1 week before my chemotherapy was done I asked for another testosterone tests to be done and this time it came back at 245 ng/dl. After my chemotherapy was finished my doctor referred me to a specialist so I could talk to him about my hormones levels.

Today I had my appointment with the Urologist. The nurse came into the room and I preceded to tell her my symptoms- No Sex Drive, Extremely low Energy No motivation ect ect. After she took my info she went out of the room and consulted with the Doctor. The Doctor came in and said that we could start me on Testosterone treatment today If I wanted. He said we would start with patches or I could use a cream or that they could even give me a shot in the office.

He looked at my charts and said its only been 4 weeks since your last chemotherapy. He said maybe we should wait 6 more weeks and see if things get any better but that it was up to me… huh? I finally decided to wait 3-4 more weeks to see if get any better because I have an appointment later on this month and it takes 2 hours to drive there so it would be easier to just have all my appointments that day.

Before I left he handed me his card and said that if I wanted to start Treatment sooner to make an appointment sooner.

So I am kinda confused about this situation and what to do. I Thought the Doctor would be more insightful/precise but instead he was confusing me as he was sorta kinda leaving it up to me if i wanted treatment or not whilst he still wanted me to wait a few more weeks. Im not sure what to do should I wait 3-4 more weeks or make an appointment next weeks to start treatment?

You should get the bloodwork recommended in the stickeys done to properly evaluate your issues.

Cancer can definitely drain you, obviously, and lower your T. Its probably possible to recover from, but you will need a full battery of tests, a doctor to work with you (urologists are TERRIBLE for TRT), and patience.

In my experience the doctors who know what they are doing and really care about helping you are far outnumbered by the one who I think got into medicine to make money. At least you Dr.is willing to prescribe Test for you. A lot won’t even discuss it with you.

Im going to go ahead and get blood-work redone locally and post the results within a week( or however long it takes to get results back). Ill use the stickies as a reference as to what to get checked as suggested. To tell you the Truth I think that the Doctor should have rechecked my blood work yesterday before offering treatment.

I may just need to get my levels checked once a month to see if they are improving. I dont think I want to be on hrt the rest of my life if I dont have to be, even though in the back of my head I think of the benefits of increased testosterone has at high normal range such as 800 ng/dl.
