Luck had nothing to do with it. No connections either. I am awesome and expect to have awesome things happen to me. And they do.

Is there any help for us?

I’ve heard it said that no one controls your own destiny and you control it. That sounds good to say but is that really the truth? There are millions of unemployed, whose lives have been drastically altered through no fault of their own, but by the decisions of other people they don’t even know.
So if other people’s decisions can control your financial well being, do you really control your own life, or is it something we just like to think?
Ever roll out of bed and feel like your life isn’t your own? Have you ever gone through the motions of daily life and felt that even though the day is yours for the taking, you have an empty feeling in the pit of your gut that somehow the events before you are all mapped out and that that sense of hopelessness, that lack of control makes life just not seem worth pulling the duvet back and opening your eyes for?
Do you ever feel like a stereotype written at the hand of a lesser man than you? A hack writer with such a weak and condescending grasp on the human condition that it makes you embarrassed to do anything, because you know that his influence will eventually shine through and so make you less of a man. Do ya?

Well said Deb. We make our own luck.

You may be employed, but someone else decided you would be employed. Some people just get lucky or have connections.
That’s not luck. Companies hire people they need. You either have the skill for the job or you don’t. And in the case of two equally skilled people going for the same job, the person who impresses most at the intervew gets the position.
Seems to me that the lady your quoted got the job because she had the required skill set and sold herself well in the interview. Nothing lucky there at all.

I guess that means that you can work on your skill, and your ability to impress people with it. And that my friend has NOTHING to do with luck!
Why do people keep saying clip11 is headhunter?
I was listening to some educational thing on NPR this morning, and they said that the three biggest factors at birth that can determine success in life are IQ, Socio-Economic Status, and the ability to delay gratification.
In other words, if you are willing to sacrifice and work hard (Attydeb), you have a better shot. Also, if you are born rich (Dan Qualle) or brilliant (Steve Jobs), you might have an easier life.
So if you were born a goat herder in Somalia, your odds of becoming rich or successful by Western terms are very low.
The quote from Orion sums it up nicely.
no one can 100% control life.
if you board a plane - your life is 100% not under your control.
ground mechanics, pilot, birds, weather, hijackers etc. are not yours to control.

Where do I start? Here’s where it clicked for me:
Thread goes to shit by the end and gets locked, but at least word has spread since then.

No. I would say it’s safe to assume that the OP’s mention of unemployment was an implicit reference to the current financial crisis. There is no respected economist on earth that would argue or has argued that taxation was a chief or even marginally significant cause of the financial collapse. This is not a matter of opinion.
The International Monetary Fund proposed global bank taxes as a SOLUTION, though.

how does your boss not decide to employ you? Are you saying that knowing the boss WON’T make you more likely to get a job?
Just wondering what your rationale for his statement being “dumb” is?

I don’t know where the posts are, but they write very similar, as well the couple of posts clip wrote something that we’d expect out of HH. And, I believe they “live” in the same area. As well we had a few detectives on this side that did some unmentionables to figure out and they supposedly found proof they were through IP or something. I unno.
