I don’t understand why any man would put up with such bullshit.
Personally, I also drive an older car (1990 Honda) and I commute 1,000 miles per week in the damn thing. It is a gem! I wouldn’t sell that car FOR SHIT because that car is what gets me to work and it pays the fucking bills.
With that said, I also make enough money to buy a new car/ truck if I so desire. This is the part where I say “I don’t know why any man would put up with this bullshit!” If I did desirre to buy a new vehicle, damn if I would let anyone stand in front of my decision. But that’s just me I guess.
You sleep alone, don’t you?

And I also go to bed at 9PM and get up at 3AM on week nights. It’s all a part of this “paying the bills” thing I keep mentioning. So really I doubt any REAL woman would want to put up with my bullshit lifestyle anyway;-)

How much do you think the car is worth? If you feel it’s worth $3k, put out an ad to sell it for that much. If you don’t get any offers on it for that much, then you don’t sell it. It’s a win win, you put the car up for sale like you said you would, but you only sell it if you get the value that you think it should be sold for.[/quote]
Overpricing it is something I’ve been considering. It kind of feels like a lie too, though. I bought it for 2,500 ten years ago. It would be really cool to sell it for that. I may very well try.

Wow. First off, it’s hardly “bullshit”. Second, we are a family and make decisions together. Third, my wife is pretty easy going. Along the line of cars. I have a friend who is a sleuth for finding great deals on cool cars. He just finished building a four car garage for his collection but he only has 3 cars for it and no cash left.
A few months ago he found a pristine S Class Porshe Boxter for only 17 grand. My wife said I could buy it if I really wanted it. My friend said he would garage it for me if he could work it out occasionally.
Anyway, stating number two above makes the answer ridiculously obvious. I’m going to sell the car.
You could sell it for 1000$, pocket 950$, and use 50$ to buy some fake jewelery while telling her you spent the whole 1000$ on the “gift”.

This is exactly where we’re at.

Because divorce is too expensive.

Well I’m sorry if that came off as offensive. I guess since I’m not married I admit I have a difficult time seeing myself letting another person having so much influence over something that I’m set on. Maybe someday I will learn to compromise!

I’m not sure how cliche this phrase is, but a co-worker once said “it’s cheaper to keep 'er”. I hadn’t heard that before so it was funny as hell. Another said his ex-wife was “a great house-keeper. When we got divorced, she kept the house, the cars, the cabin, the boat…”
Id explain to her that the car is worth what its worth and that I (you) dont want to throw away that much money or that you would rather keep it.

Don’t be sorry, you are correct in your train of thought. Unless there is a financial need for him to sell the car, as in pay bills or feed the kids, then there is NO reason he should bend. This isn’t a compromise situation, it’s a power play by the wife. She wants something her way and demands action.
Total bullshit.
Would you want her to lie to you?
Tell her you don’t want to put all the miles on the Porsche.
No wonder marriage counselors make so much money.
Ask her why she wants you to sell the car. Explain to her why you don’t want to sell it. Talk about it, and come to a decision together.
And for the record, what the car is “worth” is irrelevant if you can’t claim that value. What you have to look at is the utility it provides. If the benefit the car provides is worth less than $900 (what the market is willing to pay), you should sell the car, regardless of what you believe it’s “real” value is.

I don’t think it’s a power play…as I understand it, she doesn’t want the car sitting in the driveway and making the house look junky…and just because that sounds crazy to us, it doesn’t mean the dame doesn’t have a right to not have her house look junky…

Sen Say, sometimes I can’t make any sense of your posts, but you have clearly and correctly stated this one.

Something like this will do…

sorry, you mentioned a Porsche in a later post.
Still, would you want her to lie to you?
