Hey guys. I need 1/8 of a adex 2 x weekly. Its really a pain in the ass to get it accurate with the pill cutter.
So I tried this: i put 1 ml vodka in 1ml syringe.
Then i put the tablet in the syringe with the vodka and waited for it to dissolve.
Problem is after it dissolved it wasn’t 1 ml anymore. Almost 0.4 ml. So how do I make sure i get 1/8 of 1 mg in a syringe.
I really hate alcohol and want as little as possible of it
On Amazon i saw 1 ml droppers. Would that be easier?
Has anyone tried to weight the adex with a mg scale. I would then just weight 1/8 of the powder and put in my tongue right?
Btw i am living in stone age europe No compounded pharmacies here;-(
Crush pills first.
Dissolve.
Filter. If you are really picky but not needed since you will draw with syringe.
Top off with extra vodka after dissolution if you want exact mg AI/ml solution.
Might I recommend a graduated cylinder for a decent batch size?
Where do I get such graduated cylinder? Amazon?
You mean i should crush the pill in a glass, put 1 ml vodka, and when I draw it up through the syringe and i see it’s not 1 ml anymore just take more vodka so that i have exakt 1 ml inside?
Is something like this better than a syringe?
Yeah, use a few pills and make you a batch…say 4 mg adex in 4 ml total of vodka or whatever concentration you want. You can then draw out liquid from cylinder and put in your eye dropper bottle (second pic). Easy to separate residual binder/solids gravimetrically if you don’t want to filter.
Dispensing with dropper in first pic or even syringe is fine.
5 ml graduated cylinder:
Pick up from local instrument supply store or Amazon.
Good idea with the graduated cylinder. Would make it so much easier!
I could just fill it with 1 ml vodka. Put the pill 1-2 days before I need it in the cylinder. It will dissolve by itself right? ( Or better crush it in the cylinder?)
Then after it dissolved i would put more vodka inside until i have 1 ml.
But isn’t a syringe as accurate as a cylinder?
Scoop the powder into cylinder and if you are detailed wash the residual off the mortar with the vodka and drain in into cylinder to make sure you got everything off the mortar. Wait for dissolution. Top off with vodka for accurate mg/ml. Then draw up using syringe and store.
Using a working volume of a few ml will minimize errors with small solvent volume like 1 ml.
Mortar and pestle is a set of two simple toolsused from the Stone Age to the present day to prepare ingredients or substances by crushing and grinding them into a fine paste or powder in the kitchen, laboratory, and pharmacy. The mortar (/ˈmɔːrtər/) is characteristically a bowl, typically made of hard wood, metal, ceramic, or hard stone such as granite. The pestle (/ˈpɛsəl/, also US: /ˈpɛstəl/) is a blunt, club-shaped object. The substance to be ground, which may be wet or dry, is placed in the mortar where the pestle is pounded, pressed, and rotated into the substance until the desired texture is achieved.
And no offense but this made me laugh. We may all be back living in the stone age soon! Who knows?
I would only use a dropper if you make your solution very weak. How close do you think you could get with that dropper to 0.125 mg if your solution is 1 mg/mL? Do you think it would be easier to dose if your solution is 0.25 mg/mL?
With the former (1 mg/mL), you would be under the first tick on the dropper, and you are going to have to eyeball and compensate for the tapered vessel. With the later (0.25 mg/mL), you can fill it to the 0.5 mL mark, which should be a lot easier.
Main point: Make your solution less strong if you want to use a dose like 0.125 mg. I’d go 0.25 mg/mL or even 0.125 mg/mL. I’d do this with both the dropper and the syringe.
Another tip: It is easier to dose small amounts with a smaller syringe or smaller dropper. Almost everyone will be closer to dosing 0.5 mL accurately with a 1 mL syringe vs a 3 mL syringe.
Those pills weigh more than 1 mg because of filler, and also a 1 mg pill would be so small it would be tough to handle.
If you crush up your 1 mg pills, and then mix with ethanol (vodka for example), it will make a solution (since adex is soluble in ethanol). The filler material probably isn’t soluble, and will sink to the bottom (you can filter, or use gravity to your advantage to remove the filler). If you make your solution this way, you can use the formula.
Concentration = number of pills / number of mL of ethanol (vodka)
That will give you your solution’s concentration in mg/mL. This assumes you have standard 1 mg pills. So if you were to mix 1 pill with 4 mL of vodka, you would have a 1/4 = 0.25 mg/mL solution. Then to dose 0.125 mg, you would take your desired dose divided by the concentration or 0.125 mg / 0.25 mg/mL = 0.5 mL.
