Dip (Tobacco) Effect on Training?

I dip and have for over 25 years, just like anything else in the world you over indulge and there is negative effects. I go through one can a week and during football season one can every 5 days.

Its nicotine and amounts will effect your heart rate not your strength gains. What do you think ammonia caps do?

I know it is a HUGE cancer risk and based on what I’ve seen of oral cancer, that is one risk I won’t be taking.

It destroys the mucosa in the mouth. I can tell immediately if someone dips by looking at their lower lip.

That corrugated tissue isn’t supposed to look like that.

 I knew you would have something to say about this.

hahahaha Yea I know.

So does a proctologist advise against anal sex?

Does a gyno advise against child birth?

I dipped for awhile, never noticed any negative effects training wise. However, a friend of mine was recently diagnosed with throat cancer (just had surgery last Thursday, actually) due to dipping, which was a bit of a wake-up call.

He had been going through a can every day or two for about 12 years, so I’m sure there is a lesson about moderation in there somewhere, but I mostly stay away from it now. Except when golfing.

I used to dip obscenely - up to 2 tins of Grizzly wintergreen a day. I chased the buzz and eventually bought imported swedish snus that had even more nicotine in it than american dip - it had something crazy like 16mg of nicotine/tiny pouch.

I could always bench better while dipping but if I did anything that required a good amount of breathing… my chest would lock up, I’d turn ghostly pale, and I’d have to take it out and wait like a damn hour before feeling ‘normal’ again. That whole vascular constriction thing eventually freaked me out to the point where I stopped for almost a year now.

I’ve heard other guys say when they quit their muscles felt ‘fuller’ - I don’t know about that though. I wasn’t training enough when I quit to be able to compare.
