Did My First SubQ Shot This Week. Mixed Feelings

On wednesday, I pinned 0.5 mL subQ in my lower abdomen. It all went in smooth albeit somewhat slow but I had a stinging sensation for over an hour afterwards. That night I had a welt with redness but no pain. The area is still pain free but tender to the touch.

As a long term IM injector, I’m having mixed feelings about this. When I IM, I can put as much as 2 mL in my upper quad or glute with no stinging or long term pain. Those 2 areas are great for dispersion since any activity moves those muscles.

I believe all the evidence pertaining to SubQ related to steady levels and reduced estrogen effects but at this point, I’m not convinced its the best method for me.

Did you pull your skin up off your muscle? I subQ around the belly button and love handles 3 times a week. 40mg T cyp in grapeseed oil plus another .20 of HCG in the same syringe. I found if you go in at a 45 degree angle and as you inject slowly move the needle from the 45 to just past 90 the liquids are distributed a bit more. I’ve done this for over a year and not once had a bump or any kind of pain post injection.

What size needle are you using? My favorite easytouch 27ga 1/2"

We do see some who have this. Abdomen is not good for me, good with subq over upper legs. Some are the reverse. Experimentation is needed in your case, see what works for you.

Stinging seems odd, more of a nerve issue. Do not inject below the navel, I see that suggested often.

I’ve never tried my thigh. The skin on my leg is so tight I could never get enough skin off the muscle. and if I jab my thigh with a 1/2" needle I’d be in the muscle. How do you get around not going in the muscle?

I used a 31 gauge, 8 mm insulin needle.

Did not know this. I have more subQ fat there so I thought that would be a good place to pin.

My thoughts exactly. My BF is very low in my legs.

Definitely. Went in from the side, pretty much parallel to my stomach. I used to watch my Grandmother inject insulin, I felt like I was pretty close to her method.

Rub site after wound heals up. I do it for about 15 seconds, 3 times or so. That should help with the welt and tenderness.

Sometimes when I hit a vein, or even just get a bad stick, it stings a little.

Press on injection site firmly for 10 seconds to allow tiny vessels to seal up, preventing needle bruises.

Tight skin over leg: You only need to ‘pinch’ up a small mound of skin, then inject into the end of the mound with needle parallel to muscle below. You may have been attempting too much with your pinch technique.

I have injected T with #31 5/6" before. The shortness seems to compensate for the short length. I still used #29 1/2"

Do not use 1.0 ml syringes, use 0.5 to get faster flow rates from the pressure of the smaller piston.

It sounds like I did have too much pinched. I will continue to improve my process.

Thank you sir. Appreciate the advice.
