Dental Work...

My dentist and oral surgeon are pissing me off. I had to have a tooth pulled and implant put in. It was supposed to cost about 3grand That’s fine, just fix it. Now with the temporary teeth its costing over 4grand and the process is taking almost 11months.
Does this sound right to anyone?

Hey I know all about dentistry! You’re in luck! Let’s see, I’ve seen it on TV, read about it a little, and discussed it on internet forums.

As for your actual question, yes, I think it sounds right. Dentist gotta get paid too man.

I really don’t care about the cost, its the time. It’s my front tooth and have to take the temp out when eating. I just broke the temp for the second time so it’s not fitting right and I have two interviews this week. I just want it to be done with, the time it’s taking seems like forever.

I’ve suspected for years that I’ve been the victim of bullshit dentistry. Tough to prove though, right? Well, I went for a cleaning a couple of days ago. The hygienist says “hey, did you notice a filling fell out?” I said no with concern since it had been about four years since my last visit and that’s a lot of time for decay in an open cavity. My fear was unfounded since there was no cavity. My current dentist, who I believe I can trust, said he can drill it a little bit just to sterilize it with no risk of breaking thru and put in a new filling. I won’t even need lidocaine.

I think I can handle your problem for you. I know a dentist. I think I picked up a thing or two about a thing or two about dentistry. Give me a shot. Put me in the game coach.

It’s all about the money. I had bridges put in a while back because the guy said my mouth was going to shift and it is only a temporary fix. I look at now like, he wanted the 3grand for the bridges and then I would have to drop another eight on implants down the road. It’s to bad I’m vain, I should just rock a jack o lantern smile and be done with it.

Ive had an implant. Was a front tooth aswell.
I remember it been a pain aswell.

This was the schedule;

  1. Knock front tooth out playing soccer.
  2. Get titanium screw implant drilled into jaw. Gum is stiched up, and then titanium screw needs time for the bone to grow on to. I think the minimal time is 6 months, but I had left it for 6 years.
  3. For those 6 years I had a bridge to fill the gap.
  4. Bridge removed, gum re-opened, and implant exposed. I then had to wear a mouthguard like thing with a fake tooth in it for 2 weeks before I could get my new tooth screwed to the titanium screw. This was a pain as it wasnt comfortable and I had to take it out to eat.
  5. New tooth put on to titanium screw.

I hope that helps buddy. 4 grand for a temporary tooth sounds a bit steep. My plastic mouthguard thing with fake tooth attatched cost me about 350 bucks I think.

My dentist made me wait an extra couple of months before putting the titanium post in because they wanted the bone to heal after the infection. It doesn’t cost extra, so why would you think it’s a scam? Wouldn’t they want to get paid as soon as possible?

4 grand for extraction, implantation, production of acrylic flipper (I am assuming this is what “temporary tooth” means) and creation of restoration sounds just fine.

You had a tooth removed. If it was infected or there was bone loss, then the wait could be even longer for it to heal.

Further, why ask this forum? The average person here is posting cat pics all day.

That’s ridiculous. How is anyone else supposed to enjoy the party with that going on?

Not a scam, but I was told in the beginning that the total would be about 3,000 and now it will be way over 4.

The dentist did fix my temp for free today so I don’t have to look like a fool in an interview tomorrow.
