You act like it’s just the Democrats that are incompetent. I know you’re a right wing shill, but Christ, stop acting like the Republicans aren’t just as bad. They’re just soliciting gay sex in bathrooms from cops… they’re all fucked up.
I agree with the guy a couple posts up that says all politicians are dangerously incompetent.

You’re forgetting Mark Foley.
and John David Roy Atchison.
I don’t like the message that my fellow political junkies are sending.
It sounds like “everyone is guilty, why worry?”
Or, “The parties are exactly the same, what’s the big deal?”
In case you people are unaware, individual votes matter.
Especially, in key states.
Therefore, it behooves us to make as educated and informed a vote as possible.
If we have become so accustomed to malfeasance in our public officials, that we are no longer actively involved, we are in serious trouble.
I’ll ask you directly, do any of you find it troubling that Senators are using political pressure to influence free speech?
If you answer yes, can any of you find an instance where Republican Senators signed and sent a letter to the employer of a private citizen for the sole purpose of influencing that employees free speech?
If you answer yes to the first, and are unable to produce an example of the second, you will have proven that there IS a difference between the parties.
I’ve asked two very specific questions. I don’t want to hear anything tangential. Fire up the spin cycle somewhere else.
Thanks,
JeffR

irish,
Translation: Everyone is guilty, therefore, no one is guilty.
You don’t really think that way. I’ve even seen YOU open your mind and speak out against leftist mistakes.
I KNOW you can and probably have (by now) seen the inherent danger in the Senate Majority leader and his colleagues putting pressure on the CEO of a company that is FEDERALLY REGULATED solely because the Senators DON’T LIKE HIS SPEECH.
Let’s move beyond JeffR thinks Republicans>>>>modern democrats and irish thinks democrats>Republicans.
Can we look at this in a neutral manner?
Are you able to look beyond a knee-jerk reaction to ME writing this?
If you can, you’ll quickly find that you CANNOT (without being a complete hypocrite) rail against the POTENTIAL abuses of something like the Patriot Act, without CONDEMNING IN THE STRONGEST POSSIBLE TERMS the ACTUAL ABUSE OF POWER in this instance.
Again, I ask that you see this without taking into consideration that it’s me pointing this out. Imagine your favorite liberal pal is looking you in the eye and pointing out the danger inherent in these actions.
Or, if you can’t distance yourself from partisanship, imagine a Republican (I know it’s hard) Majority doing this to your favorite liberal mouthpiece.

Well, if it puts your mind at ease, you have no need to fear my vote going to a Democrat. Actually, I may well think much more differently than most people period. Por Exemplo: On a test today I had to write an essay re: how to correct the electoral college. I essentially said that it needed to be done away with, along with the idea of the people directly voting in the president in the first place.
Here in the U.S. we have intricately tied democracy and liberty together, where they are actually two different (though at times complementary) beasts.
I’m actually along the lines of having state primaries, and then having the house choose among the 50 candidates, then having the Senate confirm the pick. It’s an idea still in its infant stage, but I’m more of a Hamilton man than anything, so I’m really trying to tone down the demagogues in this country.

Mike,
I know full well you’d not support a democrat. The modern democrat is anathema most of what you stand for.
However, I worry that you’ll support a candidate that de facto allows rodham and her “you cannot afford all of my ideas” cabal to win.

I’m fed up with Bush in many respects. But, he is far better than anything the democrats could come up with.
The republicans are the lesser of the two evils. And some of them aren’t necessarily bad either.
What we need is for people who don’t aspire for power and control to be elected into office. But that would be near impossible, since by definition, politicians aspire for power and control.
I’m voting for those who aspire to power less than the others.
Oooh, poor Rush.
He can disk it out, but he can’t take it.
Lying scum like him should be stuck like a pig and left in a ditch to bleed dry.
Will you jump in to defend him Effr0, or will you develop a cough, like your fellow patriot?

Mind you, I’m not saying that this isn’t a bad thing, I’m just saying that it’s the way of politics, not parties, that lets things like this happen.

lumpy/100meters/bradley:
It’s “fake” because you don’t like the implications.
If it’s not a free speech issue, why send the letter to Mays?
You now, and I know that it was pressure to curb speech.
If the Republicans did something like that, you’d be rightfully indignant.
That you blow it off is just example 7007 that you believe in party over principle.
Thanks for the usual confirmatory post.

No it’s fake because you don’t really care. There aren’t any implications. There is no “or else” in the letter. No action will be taken. No legislation drawn up. The only thing that will happen is time will pass and you will sieze on the next phony outrage.

lumpy/100meters/bradley,
There is no “or else” in the letter, huh?
What exactly would you call the head of one of the branches of the Federal Government writing this letter to the boss of a private citizen employed by a Federal agency?
That’s the “or else.” Do as we say, or else we’ll sick the FCC on your noncompliant ass.
Again, I’ve asked very specific questions. You cannot answer them. It speaks volumes.
Really, it isn’t that much fun pointing out your hypocrisy and lack of principle. That’s a given.
However, this is a good example to see if other posters are really concerned about civil liberties.

And who are they? None of those people from either party will survive the primary. One among many reasons why I think EVERYONE should vote in a primary. We should get a say in who makes it to the two-party election and not just be stuck choosing between the two politicans that party politics and the party line have given us.

Again: Everyone is guilty, so no one is held accountable.
Don’t bother complaining about anything unless you pledge to change the corruption. What can you do? Vote for the least corrupt. Hold dirtballs responsible and call them out with letters/petitions etc.
Run yourself.
