You are talking about criticizing Black History Classes. I’m talking about the make believe “Black History Month” and why there is no need any longer. End of discussion. You fail to identify our thread topic.

I’m starting to wonder if you’re doing this on purpose. I quoted YOU. YOU wrote about “history courses designed to highlight African American accomplishments.” Are you saying you have no problem with that? Are you saying you shouldn’t have brought it up in the first post? Why did you write it if you don’t want to talk about it?

You can’t write things and then pretend you didn’t write them when someone points out that what you wrote was wrong.

Yes, absolutely. I felt that I had responded a little too negatively to you in that thread. To be clear, that’s not a concession on the substance, but an admission that I was being a dick about the way I was addressing you. I never want to be an outright asshole, even on the internet.

But, still, the substance of these arguments is unchanged. You post something, I quote it and challenge the idea contained in the quote, and then you won’t respond on topic.

To try a last time (I promise, if you won’t address this point in your next post, I will not try again):

“Liberal educators [planning] history courses designed to highlight African American accomplishments.”

What do you mean by this? Not Black History Month–this quote doesn’t allude in any way to that. What specifically does this except mean? What is your position on black history courses in college?

Please. Another keyboard commando violating OPSEC to let everyone know how cool he is. I have had the pleasure of working with former Intelligence Community and Federal L.E. personnel in my ongoing graduate studies, and they are certainly some of the most humble and genuine individuals I have had the honor of meeting. You don’t fit the personality profile, nor the command of the English language. They also possess this super secret neat skill, they call it critical thinking I think?

I consider myself a highly literate person having studied linguistics and having a love of the English language and English literature, but I don’t look down on those whose command of the English language is not perfect. I have a longstanding rule: I never correct someone’s grammar or spelling unless they make a point of correcting others whilst making egregious grammatical/spelling errors themselves. Literacy is important but not nearly as important as wisdom, intelligence and knowledge. Remember that the rules of English spelling and grammar were not formalised until the late 19th century and some of the greatest writers: Shakespeare, Chaucer etc. invented words and used different spellings on different occasions. It’s the substance to which I respond. And EVERYONE is guilty of such errors on occasion. I have even found myself making errors in haste at times. Having said that, there is plenty of substantive criticism to be found in ‘conservativedog’s’ diatribes. And for the record, grammar and spelling were not fully formalised until the pubication of Fowler’s Modern English Usage in 1926 and much has changed since then. The study of the English language is a lifetime pursuit.

Fantastic post from SM. I am told I posses an exceptional command of the language, but I very rarely criticize someone else’s spelling or grammar because it’s petty and irrelevant. There’s plenty to disagree with without having to nitpick about someone’s inelegance of expression. Substance is indeed what matters. Furthermore, as was also alluded to, the ability to creatively “break” the strict accepted of rules a given language in the name of more effective and or vibrant expression is in my opinion an intellectual talent.

The point is not to criticize spelling or grammar as a means of derision.

I simply can’t believe that someone who holds the kind of job he’s alluding to having would argue and write in the way that he does.

But this is unprovable and fairly silly so let’s stop talking about it.

Yeah, we don’t pick apart spelling and grammar on the board as a rule. The only exception is if I am personally losing a debate then I’ll resort to those dirty tactics. Hey…it’s either that or say something about the guy’s mother and I wouldn’t do that.

I do find it alarming that in the screen grab that the other tabs are SMH 23’s profile, the FBI Directorate of Intelligence and the Arabic Keyboard.

I find it predictable.

LOL @ “Code name tell everyone on T-Nation”.

That is going to be a bitch to make a movie out of.

I found it very predictable as well, and I visited that particular tab on the FBI’s website:

It’s a throwaway “about us” page. Not the kind of thing, I imagine, that James Bond would spend his time perusing.

The real point being that I don’t necessarily doubt that this guy works for the government, but to say “my avatar has something to do with my profession” when your avatar is a picture of James Bond is about as childish and ridiculous and very obviously self-deluded as one can be. The kinds of people whose professional duties most closely approximate those of James Bond do not post on internet forums with James Bond avatars and then tell people all about it.

Either that, or I have a superspy after me and I’m totally fucked.

Wonderful tips, but it won’t even be necessary, because my profession has something to do with the attached picture.

What difference does it make? I hope people don’t make stuff up, I don’t, but if someone does how does that make their arguments true or false? I don’t like to be personally hurtful to people though I catch myself doing it sometimes. I’m not gonna call somebody out if they’re fibbin about something unless it influences the debate. A time or two it has and a time or two I called them out.

I think HH has some competition with being a PWI troll now.

This isn’t a bad point. A remark as obviously ridiculous as the one that this jumped off from really just demanded to be addressed. But I didn’t intend to post on the matter further.

But then I saw an opportunity to post the above picture of Sean Connery, and I decided one more prod couldn’t hurt.

Anyways, the discussion you’re alluding to isn’t happening. I’ve been asking the OP a simple question based on something he wrote in his first post and he has categorically refused to answer me. The same thing happened in a previous thread, which he’s linked to above, during which I repeatedly asked him–based on something he’d said–whether or not he believes that the high rate of criminality among American blacks can be explained genetically through the prism of race, and at that time also he refused to answer me.

I’m always a little fuzzy on the true definition of a troll. Is a troll necessarily being insincere? Because unfortunately I’m pretty convinced that this guy is in fact posting earnestly.

lol, noted. And I always try not to do that.

In this case, though, a different point is being made. I don’t want to point out the guy’s lack of command of the English language in order to deride him. I’m echoing the (apt) point that legionary is making: it is unlikely that a man who performs the kind of job that CD has claimed to perform would conduct himself in the way that he does.

This might sound harsh, but claims put forward in PWI demand dissection.

I was only telling the way I view stuff like this. For the record, though we DO NOT agree on almost anything, you’re alright in my book too. As for he OP? i am simply without a view at this time. I have found myself thinking he was both quite articulate and almost brilliant at times and also a meathead at others. Like Orion and Lifty (and PAT =] In any case I hope he sticks around.
