Blood is inevitable. You can try socks for deadlift to protect the shins or leggins.

I think that depends on deadlift style and leverages. I deadlifted for years without any issues.

Yes, may be depends. With conventional deadlift is almost needed to have them. I’ve been training with a powerlifting team for years and all of them had long bloody calluses on their shins.
p.p. depends on the type of the bar mostly.

that’s bad. Ï’ve seen someone uses protectors for the shins, like in combat art, but I don’t know if it’s helpfull or not.

A powerlifting team probably pull more than me. My best was only 225kg, and my technique has always been at best rudimentary.

I can tell you that after only 3 plates the sheer weight, if you keep the bar close, will rip my shins no matter what ahahah

This is a very good lift indeed. My ex-boyfriend was a powerlifter (2 national records in deadlift at 66 and 74kg ), so I train for years in a powerlifting gym.
In fact every lift is better when you press the bar to your shins and drag it upright.

Erm, pass. Probably around 85-90kg? Probably my proudest ever lift to be fair, not long before my son was born, so we’re talking about 4 years ago.

Me too, don’t worry. My biggest deadlift in recent years has been 150kg. I can probably do more by now, but no real inclination to try. Hope to break the 4 plate barrier by Christmas.

I agree with this. Never touched my shins - even my max lifts of 500 and 545 lbs. Not even close. I have long legs and if you look at my set up, the bar just doesn’t seem to have a path that would scrape my shins. Maybe it depends on foot size and positioning, too?

I wear a size 13 shoe and my knees are over my toes on the set up. I’d have to get back on my heels on the pull to get the bar into my shins. I guess it’s good to be tall for one lift.

I’m normal height (6") but with a freaky long torso. My legs are basically the same length as my 5"2 missus

Maybe foot plays? I’m 6"1 but I only wear size 9 shoes. I have long legs in general, and when I start, the bar is touching or almost touching the shin, this is where I bleed the most. But I’ve had some spells without bloody shins. But when doing DL + snatches + cleans well my sensitive skins ends up teared, and it’s actually the scabs that open each time. One touch and it’s over!

B. Muscle snatch + Power snatch + Snatch 4 x 3 + 3 + 3 at 40 kgs

C. Push press + jerk 4 x 3 + 3 at 60, 60, 70, 70 kgs

D. Clean + Paused front squat + Slow eccentric front squat + Front squat + Jerk 4 x 1 + 1 + 1 + 1 at 60, 70, 70, 70 kgs

E. Fat gripz curls with slow eccentric 2 x 10 at 25 kgs

Full snatches were hard, I even lost balance on one. I think it’s that I try to go deep before having stabilized the bar. But actually I shouldn’t go lower than needed. When I saw videos of pros at worlds they were just going as low as need. One of them even broke the world record with a fucking POWER clean! So I should focus on the perfect catch position then diping if needed.

I was beginning to tire at the end. These sessions are brutal. It’s hard to find the courage to do the jerks when you’re tired. My hands are in constant pain, I hate the hook grip lol. But the weight is actually light! If I focus on feet speed then it’s easy.

@Frank_C Don’t think height or foot size makes a difference. Brian Shaw is 6 ft 8 and has massive feet but still pulls the bar among his shins. It’s just technique. You would probably have a bigger pull if you sat back more and pulled the bar up your shins, but it would take practice and coaching to get the best out of it. I am a bit like you in that I rarely pull the bar along my shins in training. I have to consciously sit back and pull the bar back to scrape my shins and it feels odd.

Well at the seminar I was at this summer, the coach there, several european and world medals said you don’t need to pull close to the shin.
So I think it’s a matter of style.
