Yes, this is STUPID. However, fundamentalist Muslims don’t have a monopoly on intolerance. Better believe that there are a lot of white American parents who would beat, punish and/or disassociate from their sons/daughters if they married/dated a black person.

I’m going to have to take issue with this statement. While I might be prepared to hear out an argument that states that this is a cultural norm for islamists, you cannot equate this with “Indian culture” because there is no such thing. They have so many religions and languages there, they make our “melting pot” look perfectly homogenous. There are over 400 languages spoken in India alone. You cannot possibly mean Indian culture as a whole, because it doesn’t exist. Pakistan is much more homogenously Muslim, but I’m not sure if it does or does not apply to the “Pakistani culture”.
Also, the term “Arab” is quite a misnomer when applied this broadly. It would be more appropriate to say “muslim” or “islamist”, as the specific honor killings under discussion in the OP pertain to a specific religion, rather than a country’s culture–they occur in Africa too, btw.
(Yes, I am aware that Muslims are not the only ones who’ve committed heinous acts like this, as has been pointed out in this thread and others previously–I’m simply trying to narrow it back down to the original post)
