Probably spawned by sardines.
We should start sending PMs to people on here who we know haven’t seen it yet that read “Miranda Tate betrays Bruce Wayne.” or “Miranda Tate stabs Batman.” or “Wayne Lives”. That would be funny.

In every installment so far Nolan has dropped hints. In TDK Wayne asks Fox if the new armor can protect against dogs, and Fox replies “it’ll work against cats”. Then, when the Wayne Enterprise employee was trying to blackmail Wayne he asks “…what’s next, a rocket ship”? Those are two pretty obvious references to cat woman and the Bat, respectively.
Don’t remember who said it, but when running through the sewers he said “he asked if I saw any giant crocodiles”. There was no point to that purge than a subtle hint.
There won’t be a sequel to this movie. Nolan has stated about a million times that this is it for him as far as Batman films go, and he also made very clear that he would NEVER be involved in a Batman project involving Robin. So I doubt that he will turn around and not only make another film, but make it with Robin in it.
Perhaps some other director will come along and pick up on something Nolan left open-ended, but I doubt he’ll actually be involved in the project.
HOWEVER, there was definitely a not-so-subtle reference to one of his upcoming projects; a biopic about Howard Hughes. Not the HH from The Aviator, but the one who spent the last 10-15 years of his life living on a bed in a Vegas penthouse with bottles of his shit and piss all around him. The film will be based on a book by Michael Drosnin called Citizen Hughes that I’ve recommended on this site in the past, and I again HIGHLY recommend the book. It looks like Nolan semi-practiced the idea on Bruce Wayne first.
Well, what hou nust wrote went out the window 'cause he literally JUST DID a project with Robin in it. He’s also been quoted as saying he’d never use catwoman and only use characters that hadn’t been used before. Looks like he says a lot.
I didn’t see Robin of Batman yore in the film, did you? I saw some guy whose birth name is Robin and likes spelunking and rappelling. I didn’t see a superhero. As far as the Catwoman thing, Nolan wasn’t nearly as adamant about that point as he has been about any more sequels. Besides, technically Catwoman was never mentioned in the movie, only Selina Kyle. I hope I’m wrong though. I could definitely see him doing something along the lines of Miller’s The Dark Knight Returns, but I think in a way the ending of Rises was a bit of an homage to that comic anyways. Definitely more of an homage to that comic than a possible opening for a future film with Robin in it.
You’re joking, right? Batman was grooming a kid with a middle name of Robin to be his heir, and they called Kyle [who dressed in a fucking skin tight cat costume] a cat burgler, I don’t know, 50,000 times. I have no idea how you’re trying to argue this, but here we are.
The Catwoman comment was tongue-in-cheek, but the Robin part was not. Robin, the Boy Wonder, was not in this film. The character of Robin isn’t even named John Blake or anything close, other than the third Robin being named Tim Drake.
Were their allusions to the Robin character? Of course. But they were just that, allusions. If he had found out that the guy’s name was really Dick instead of Robin it might be a little more feasible. But Gordon-Levitt’s character could go on to do anything after the events in this film. Maybe he goes on to become Robin, maybe he doesn’t. Maybe he’s Nightwing. Maybe he turns the Batcave into a rock climbing park for orphaned children.
That’s what Nolan does. He leaves things open-ended for you and I to fill in with our own imagination, not as a possible jumping-off point for a future sequel. Personally, I think if there was any intention on Nolan’s part for Gordon-Levitt to be a possible Robin character Wayne would have let him know he was alive as a means of possibly mentoring him, much like he did with the Robin character in the comics. Batman never just let Robin go off and do his own thing without him, especially when Robin was younger. It’s what got Jason Todd killed.
The point though is that Nolan didn’t put anything in there definitively one way or the other. Keep in mind that Robin is totally dependent on the wealth of Wayne, which the character in the film had no access to.
Dude, you’re ridiculous. That was clearly Nolan’s take on Robin. It’s shit like this why people are leaving this site in large numbers. Arguing for the sake of arguing. That’s not meant as a personal dig DB as I generally find you thoughtful and entertaining, just pointing something out.
One thing that also annoyed me: How easily Batman was subdued by Miranda Tate. A single stab and he’s down? The guy constantly takes a beating from henchmen yet a little knifing and he’s powerless. He could’ve at least elbowed her in the face.

Quite an ambiguous take on him though.

He hadn’t had any ass in 8 yrs…that pussy got him.
But seriously though…she stabbed him good…after tussling with Bane. Along with the shock of getting fucked by Ras Al-Ghul’s daughter…AND she had the detonator. Not really a situation to just “react” per say.

Yeah DB writes all kind of retarded shit. Anyways, I really hope they explore Levitt’s character more. I know Nolan said he wouldn’t be doing anymore films, but I hope there’s another 10 years from now or whatever. He really surprised me in this movie, after 500 days of summer I never thought he could pull off a serious action role. Even in Inception he came off as a bit of a pussy.
I thought the movie was great. Each movie in the series had a different vibe to it that I liked. I hope there is no sequel whatsoever after this one. A trilogy is perfect and money grubbing hollywood needs to let the franchise die for awhile after this one.
I saw the movie in IMAX. First time seeing an IMAX movie and I was impressed. The sound was fucking loud as hell, I liked it.

I agree on getting different vibes from each movie, I would be fine if they decide to do a Robin spin off type of thing.
I agree with the reviews that say it was good but not great. I loved WHERE the movie ended up but had issues with HOW it got there. Maybe it had to be that way, I don’t know. Overall a satisfying experience, but I felt it was a little too big for its britches.
Biggest gripe:
Nuclear fucking weapons? I mean come on now…I think that’s expanding the scope of the Bat-verse a little too much. It cheapens the movie when the entire fucking world should be involved in the plot yet somehow the villain’s only inclination is towards destroying Gotham City.
I get that Gotham is the center of the universe in this world, but if that’s the case then you can’t really get the POTUSA involved, can you? OR the US military. The Mayor of Gotham should be the supreme authority, and the Gotham PD is the martial force.
And how do you have a fight where everyone has a gun yet somehow they all end up in melee combat? What the fuck is this, the French and Indian War?
Ugh, lots of BS to deal with here. Again, overall I liked it, but shit bothered me in this one on an unprecedented level, and not (in my mind) little stuff.
Yer I liked it. Will go watch it for a second time.
Didnt like the fact that Bruce was able to recover from a broken back by doing a few supersets of push-ups and pull-ups and recover within 23 days.
Also plot was a little bit over the top. They could probably make an awesome Batman movie without having an atom bomb threat etc etc. How about a Batman movie in which the plot involves the war on drugs in Gotham etc etc.

the mayor died bro
the military was involved because all cops were underground, there were terrorists and there was a nuclear bomb
there was lots of shooting before the melee

Christ Almighty, how the hell do people keep missing this important point???
Bruce was in the pit for 5 months, and they showed the prison doctor helping to heal his back. Pretty understandable they didn’t go into the details of spine and CNS rehabilitation in an action movie that is 2 hours and 45 mins. The push-ups and pull ups were just there to show that he was training.
It has even been mentioned in this very thread that Bruce Lee recovered from a broken back in a very similar time frame
I like Steel Nations line about liking where the movie ended but taking issue with how it got there. I feel the same way. I just feel like the while movie was forced. It was like Nolan was trying to top himself and kinds fell flat. Also, I HATED how much was given away in the trailers. I enjoy these movies for the stories, but still get a kick outta badass action. For example, the whole plane high-jacking scene would’ve been a lot cooler if I hadn’t seen it 50 fucking times already. Also, I know they left the Joker untouched out of respect for Ledger, and I get it, but I don’t like it. There could’ve at least been mention of him or something. He doesn’t just disappear from the Bat universe. This was the only of the three films that felt like a comic movie, and maybe that’s my big issue. The first two are the whole reason comic movies are being taken seriously now, and it felt like Nolan kinda jumped the shark on this.
I really really like Alfred.

There WAS a nuclear bomb. That’s the whole fucking problem.
When does shooting EVER precipitate a melee in modern combat? You don’t start shooting at someone and then decide to rush them in open terrain while they’re still shooting at you.
