Moreover, when the KKK does something awful in the US, they get prosecuted. If an Islamist does something awful in a Muslim country, his victims will be dragged through the streets while throngs of barbarians cheer with bloodthirsty glee.
Yes, and guess what? In responce to the British Knighting Rushdie, Muslims in Pakistan did the Muslim equivalent to Osama Bin Laden today.

Shit! I lack the words to describe how inexcusable that act is. It’s so wrong, it’s not even funny. Yet, you chose to attack the most secular regime of the region Iraq.
Imagine if it was Iranians for a second. Bombs would be dropped first thing in the morning. Am I right?
This is the most fucked up thing I’ve read in a long long time. It’s outrageous!
I’ll focus on Islam’s widespread role in oppressing women, religious minorities, apostates, etc. I’ll focus on how it spawns violent separatist groups. I’ll focus on how it spawns terrorism, mass murder of Christians and Animists, a disproportionate belief in the Protocols of Zion, disproportionate holocaust denial, etc.
I’ll focus on how Islam is used to justify muslims killing muslims. You go ahead and ignore it.

So, Sloth, I think the amount of news snippets you have presented so far should be enough for a discussion. Do you think the problems of the islamic world are basically caused by the fact that they are muslims?

No, I was basically agreeing with you.
I agree with you again.
And I DO NOT agree that ALL muslims are terrorists.

Hell, I’d say most aren’t. But that does not mean there aren’t a hell of a lot of them still.
In order to gain a shred of respect, they need to seriously introspect.

I doubt it, there is a long list I posted on these forums somewhere detailing the crimes Iran has committed against the US and the world. No bombs have fallen.

I doubt we would attack Iran over this.[/quote]
C’mon, what have they done that could possibly be compared to awarding Osama a trophy? Did Iranians harm or condone violence against US civilians lately?

Let’s read Sloth’s own words:
“Why should I feel ashamed for pointing out the WIDESPREAD violence and oppression stemming directly from the practice of Islam? And no, not from just a “few bad apples.” But from an extremely disturbing large part of the muslim population.”

Judging from past threads, I believe that they did. You believe that they did not. Neither one of us are going to change their opinion. No sense in even discussing this.

Yup, those are my words. Ask a woman or religious minority living under the boot of Islam. The religion needs a serious and widespread reformation. Badly.

So you attribute the main problems - poverty, inequality, unemployment, expansive population pyramids, political tensions - to islam.
I can agree with you, that a widespread modernization of the ways in wich islam is interpreted would be beneficial, though I’m not convinced that religious rethorics would affect cultural practices that much.
Domestic violence for example is not dependent of religion. And contrary to your belief, women tend to be quite defensive about islam, even though I don’t always understand it. In africa, where they do clitorectomies, do you think it is men who perform them?
Your level of generalization has the unhappy consequence, that it masks more that it reveals, it makes the whole subject unintelligible.
