Crash (lifts and stuff)

Yup, very nice calves. My own aren’t too shabby - I’ve not trained them in ages because a combination of genetics and running takes care of them. I have a pretty freaky tibialis anterior, too. Main thing is to remember to stretch those mofos because running (especially on the balls of your feet, as in sprinting) will make them incredibly tight. I stretch and foam roll mine all the time but they’re still tight as a choirboy’s arsehole.

Inspiring photos too.

Nice simile Cal.

Nice calves charlie. And, I agree running is the shit for the lower leg.

To Edgy, Bre, Cal, Nadia, and Alexus I will accept your compliments on my calves but I don’t think I had anything to do with them. lol. I have always loved walking though, in fact if I miss a day of walking I just feel weird and disconnected. <–This might have something to do with the calves, along with the genetics:D

Poor Edgy, I can’t think of anything more boring than exercises to isolate the calves, except maybe exercises to isolate the abs:( *grumble grumble

Nadia I too double up during sprints, for me though I need a regular bra, with separation of the girls, otherwise I get annoyed lol, and then a smash them together sport bra over top. But I do need something new. This is also why I am considering speed skating, some of those ladies have boobs!

Cal- Yes to the tightness of the calves. I have never foam rolled before but I do stretch them a lot, usually more than once a day. Also I loled at the “choirboy’s arsehole” bit too.

???

Okay I was not sure what I was going to do tonight/this morning as far as a conditioning?? this so I just made it up when I got to the park. Really the only reason to go was a to A) walk to the park and B) Stretch

Warm up
-walk to park
-jog around field
-stretch

Workout
To run as fast as I can without sprinting*
-100m x 8**
-also I stretched in between some of the runs

  • This might end up being the plan for prepping for the next sprint distance I want to achieve because I am almost at 60m (I think I’ll do this next week) and next will be 100m

** I felt that the first 3 were more difficult but then I got fast with the 4th,5th,6th, and 7th ones then pooped out with the 8th. I find this to be true of my sprints too.

For the weights starting next week I have a new routine I want to try out as I feel my lower body lifts and sprints kind of get in the way of each other. So this is what I’m going to try.

Day 1
Lowerbody :Alternate between Squats and Deads 5/3/1
Upperbody: Overhead press 5/3/1

Day 2
Upperbody: Bench 5/3/1
Back exercises.

I want to do 2 days of sprints plus at least 1 day like today maybe working up to 2 days like today.
Goal this week: Find a park with a suitable hill for hill sprints, I will substitute it for a sprint day, I think.

Here’s an awesome Canadian band, been around since early the 90’s. Sloan!

I’m on a Canadian bender and unfortunately could not find a suitable version of Baby Ran by 54-40 but there is always The Hip, and I thought trying to find a fav Sloan song was hard. I decided to start with an early fav Little Bones

Sorry it’s VEVO

Yes Charlie, I was pretty much born with “dat ass” and no matter how low my bodyweight has gotten, the shadow of my ass has weighed no less than 20 lbs.

I do running sprints and bike sprints, I rotate them. My old track coach in college had noted that running sprints were notorious for leaning out the abdomen (who can disagree with the ab development of sprinters, who also are not known for doing endless crunches.) Bike sprints lean out the legs according to Dr. John Berardi. So why not enjoy the best of both worlds?

Hi Charlie, from one boob chick to another…good sports bra.
'Nuff said.

Try foam rolling your calf with a tennis ball or if you’re brave enough, soft ball or golf ball(my sports chiro told me about the last one).

Are you familiar with fartlek training? Loosely termed ‘play training’…I recently started to do this with my sprints, not conventional fartlek, but I throw in some explosive jumps at the end of the distance, example jump squats, alternating jump lunges, etc…increases EPOC and keeps it interesting.
I will not be resposible for your coughed up lung, though

How about some motivaional pics…

I love that pic! THAT is an epic ass

And welcome :)!!

Valerie Waugaman, who used sprints as a part of her leg training.

Also she was on American Gladiators.

Thank you Coyote, great back shot in your avi !

and thank you!

Nothing wrong with having “dat ass”.
How often do you do sprints, I have never had a problem with getting muscles to show on my legs, my problem is flattening my stomach.
Oh and thanks for all the sprinter pics, it is hard to find a sprinter who doesn’t have a fab body.

For me I do them at least once a week, sometimes twice. They are really taxing, especially when you get to the longer distances like 300m and 400m. I would rank them up there with “hell on Earth.” I think because of their intensity, they can melt fat off your body at an unprecedented rate. When I come home from sprints, I also find that I am not that hungry for awhile. If anything, I feel kinda nauseated LOL. But I would work them in slowly and really take your time in your prep and warm up. It is not hard at all to pull a hamstring or calf muscle.

hmm… separate then smash. i’m gonna try that. not so fond of the uniboob look i’ve got going on. thanks

Your log keeps reminding me that once I finish the GVT, I will be hitting the track for some sprinting. Thanks for the motivation!

Coyote-Hi thanks for the welcome.

Veggie-Yeah we’ll be a gang of sprinting maniacs, maybe we could get Edgy sprinting too.

Skyel7-I had to google fartlek to see what it was. I was planning on adding some jumping and leaping stuff, there was an article on T-Nation that had rolls then popping up and doing jump lunges and popping up from kneeling to a sprint. I thought that would be fun on the grass. I just haven’t got a plan for it yet. But yeah play training sounds like fun. Oh and I got to try that foam rolling thing, I got to get one!

Max-300m and 400m awesome! When I made the goal of doing a full out sprint for 400m I was thinking it was a possibly lofty goal but I’d rather a lofty goal. I am contemplating limiting mine too, I was hoping for beginner gains/muscle memory but it may not be working. Grrrr stupid mortal body.

&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&

So this week no sprints yet. Joints are a little grumpy, muscle soreness I can handle but joint stuff not so much:(

So here are my best lifts from today.
5/3/1
Deadlift-90% 135lbs for 5 reps. Yeah big girl plates!
There is something wrong with my deadlift form I will see if I can video tape it next week, I’ve never asked if we can do this in my gym. Is that usually something one can do?

Overhead press-90% 60lbs for 7 reps.

I guess the sprint workout is a work in progress.

How I feel about sprints right now. And man I forgot how damn sexy the guys in this band are/were? Philosopher Kings- Hurts to Love You.

Divide and conquer

ah, yes, that sounds better.

i read that same article and it did indeed look like fun.

i’ve never asked about taking vids. just try and be subtle about it and set up to avoid other gym users as much as possible. even though some of them seem to do their damnedest to be in the movie. i always worry about guys holding up their phones like they are texting… if they are taking pics / movies of me… but probably i’m paranoid. i’m just not that damned important. whatever…

i’d try it first rather than asking. if you ask they might say ‘no’ but if nobody complains it is probably fine.
