Law enforcement have a tremendous amount of political power here, a virtually impenetrable fortress that can get away with anything.
Obviously I don’t think it’s a good idea to assault a police officer. That has to be, without a doubt one of the dumbest things someone could do over here. “How to ruin your life in five seconds”… Hit a police officer in Australia…

You could create one with some sticks and a rubber band… “Slingshots are illegal in Victoria”… Like shut the fuck up… what isn’t illegal in Victoria? Leaving your home is fucking illegal! Pellets are for air guns. If I remember my air guns correctly, owned one when I lived in philly. Shooting one of those tiny pellets (.177 or .22) from a slingshot isn’t going to do much, let alone crack a window.
I’m so… Angry… Dammit! I used to be a calm person. I even stood up to someone who swore at me today, and I usually it slide when people treat me like dirt because I’m used to it and can’t be bothered with the conflict that ensues. I’m saving up and studying, want to get out as soon as I can. @oglebee I might have an option to get out to a place that isn’t Isreal. I’m angry that I can’t leave the house, I’m angry that I’m potentially being driven to leave, I’m angry that my college education is dropping in quality due to continual budget cuts/lecturers and teachers quitting or getting laid off… I’m angry that I’m called out for being irrational or told I’m an asshole when I bring up statistics relating to covid taken from the CDC (USA) and the likes, I’m angry that bodies of thought that go against the grain of our enforced, ham fisted and politicised narrative result in cascades of poorly thought out ad hominem attacks, I’m angry as to how inconsiderate and condescending Australians have become, I’m angry as to how little insight the average person has here, how they’re unable to put themselves in someone else’s shoes. Telling me to shut up, that I’m some kind of “pro death cunt” when I’m alone, depressed, isolated and wandering into through some very dark territory because of the enforced narrative “stay home or die”… To boot, services to treat mental health ailments shut down during (and after) these lockdowns.
Maybe I should go back to res… At least the isolation wouldn’t be quite as crippling (I go home when we lock down). If I get caught driving back I risk something like a 2,000$ fine though. I’m trying to distract myself by building an outdoor gym. Working on the schematics, it’ll be awesome if I manage to pull it off.

I don’t really follow Australian news. How are they still entertaining this possibility with the Delta strain? You brought up Singapore somewhere above. They currently have almost 80% of their population inoculated with at least one jab and probably have around 70% fully vaccinated by now. That’s the percentage of the entire population. Not just adults. From the news, the authorities are still expecting cases to rise as restrictions are eased.
Well Victoria reported 30 cases in the community today. Thinking lockdown will last at least a month, if not indefinitely if they can’t get it back down to zero.

Every country has it’s pros and cons. It’s very easy to look at how they are portrayed in the media and think the grass is greener somewhere else. It usually isn’t. Focus on improving your own life and TRY to not let all this shit bother you too much.

Difficult when you can’t leave the house aside for work. My boss is a hardass and berates his employees frequently, myself included. He pays well though, so I don’t mind so long as he only treats me like shit when I’m on the clock.
I don’t really have anyone to talk to, so I spend the majority of the days during lockdown in my own head. It’s not healthy
My distraction now is to get big by the end of the year. I’m already “muscular” relatively speaking at 5’6 (at a push) and 175… But I can probably hit 185 by the end of the year if I play my cards right.

But there isn’t exactly anyone stopping you from leaving your house.
I ran a 5 K along some beaches an hour south of Sydney. Heaps of people out at the beach knocking back a few cold ones. Running the bike path. Kids everywhere. Surfers.
Where I am at the lockdown is only a thing when you enter into any institutions. Like Big business or University, Hospitals etc. Otherwise asides from heaps of businesses being closed you wouldn’t be able to tell much is going on.
In Sydney I would imagine its different.
But the hysteria is omnipresent and frustrating.
I know many people who still visit friends albeit a bit more discreetly.

I’m not from NSW, many people my age are petrified of both covid and breaking restrictions. As a result visitations to those I’d like to visit are off the books.
I’ve been through covid checkpoints before when driving around for work, can’t risk that fine.

Chief medical officer is advocating for a circuit breaker in NSW, but they’ve been in lockdown for six weeks, they’ve deployed stage 4 restrictions and brought in the military. Now they’re actually advocating (I think) we go full China and lock people in their own homes… Over 300 cases/day, I’m aware exponential growth is of concern… But covid zero is a pipe dream at this point.
Victoria’s lockdown has been extended now… When will people get fed up? 8 out of the past 12 months in stage 4… And we just have people jerking off Daniel Andrews left right and centre. We say “OH MY GOD… FIVE DEATHS!” Have we stopped to notice 4/5 of them were past the median Australian lifespan, the other one looked like a very unhealthy person in their 60’s.

People here are SO disconnected from the rest of the world. I have plenty of family overseas, they hardly think about covid anymore (except for the one family member of mine who died). The narrative is that bodies are dropping in the streets in Europe, it’s not fucking true lol. Our appetite for risk is just fucked beyond recognition
I’d walk into a covid ward, catch it myself and risk death (wouldn’t be impossible for me to catch long covid with my health status) if it meant I could get up, leave and never come back after recovering.

I love (sarcastic) how this pandemic has enabled me to harbour some fairly extreme political ideologies relative to the Australian status quo that I would have otherwise never grown to harbour had (from my perspective) our federal and state governments not decided to totally strip away any civil liberties associated with being an Australian citizen.
