I like your wonderbread. Who did you paste your face on?

Fallen did it in response to my BroKagan pic, which offended him, so he then doctored my photo…(which I think he was trying to insunuate I’m a cracker white bread something or other…).which I now use as an avatar! It’s Kagen.
There’s something to be said for “courageous restraint”. That said, the idea that there should be a medal for it is silly. Doesn’t that automatically imply that our military lacks the necessary restraint as a whole? Besides, there’s already a medal for such events…write a guy up for one of a half dozen medals that could encompass that, like a NAM or a bronze star or someshit.
Frankly, everyone in the military deserves a medal for restraint – restraining from leaving the military and continuing to fight for this shadow of a republic. I know I wasn’t capable of that achievement.
Well what would you prefer, punishment for those who do fire on civilians, or incentive for those who chose not to. It is a serious test of nerves to not open fire when a car disobeys orders at a checkpoint, or following proper rules of engagement on patrol.
Very few soldiers are killed by small arms fire, as compared to IEDs/bombings, but understandably this has led to a “triggerhappy” environment.
That being said its easy for us to judge behind our keyboards, if a car was speeding towards me on patrol/at a checkpoint, I’d light it up like a fucking Christmas tree: no chance in hell I want to leave the sandbox in a bodybag. So in that sense I don’t think this will endanger soldiers. They aren’t going to be thinking of this medal when on duty. That’s like saying the Purple Heart is incentive to get wounded.

U.S. troops in Afghanistan could soon be awarded a medal for not doing something, a precedent-setting award that would be given for â??courageous restraintâ?? for holding fire to save civilian lives…
â??The idea is consistent with our approach,â?? explained Air Force Lt. Col. Tadd Sholtis. â??Our young men and women display remarkable courage every day, including situations where they refrain from using lethal force, even at risk to themselves, in order to prevent possible harm to civilians. In some situations our forces face in Afghanistan, that restraint is an act of discipline and courage not much different than those seen in combat actions.â??
I don’t think it is a half bad idea…anyone can shoot down human shields…but trying your best to save the people first should be worthy of note.

If you might die for not firing on civilians interspersed with enemy combatants and you hold then you are a badass and a true hero, end of story. [/quote]
I think you guys are underestimating the self-preservation instinct of someone in the military. No one is going to risk their life to receive some medal…

If you are not wearing the same uniform as me, I am shooting at you, no questions asked, no hesitation needed.
I might even shoot you if you look at me funny, kinda cock-eyed, ya know?
Bottom line, if I am in a hot zone under fire, I am doing whatever I need to to come home. Whether that means I get a medal or a court martial, so be it.
Fighting for your country says you’re brave, getting a Purple Heart says you’re lucky.
