Corrmhona Takes Flight

I thought I should check on the supervillian thing. I told my wife I was going to get a luchador mask, a speedo and a pair of wrestler boots, then connect the patches the shaved in my chest for the ECG electrodes in to a big N for my costume. She didn’t say it was a supervillian look, but she did think maybe I switched sides somehow. (Humour appreciated. Always.)[/quote]

Why does “mid life crisis” leap to mind?

Nitroman’s Mid Life Crisis arc. Sure I can work with that. I need to get cloned or something first though…

So weighed in after my first week of cutting. Down 3#. Did measurements as we waiste, and strangely chest have gone down, thigh and hip bigger. I must have had bigger moobs than I thought.

Back is still twinging so I’m planning on laying off the oly’s until it is better, as I have too many things to focus on and not letting it round at all is unlikely. I think even a little round = death to my back right now.

Good to see you have recovered and it’s always good to the wife give you a good pounding. Hope you continue to recover -the lifting must go on.

Note to self, don’t catch up reading everyone’s logs mid-workout…that 10 minute delay between sets is too long even for me.

Warmup OH Squat + Behind the Neck Presses 3 sets of 1+3 40#
Almost down in the overhead squat, shoulder mobility is coming up nicely as well. I need to do more of these, and maybe inch up the weight a bit. More weight = deeper squats!

Was planning on Power Clean + Front Squat + Jerk, but no catch on the clean, just a lot of half way there.
So Power Clean + hold as tight in the shelf as I can. 10 at 140#. I need a name. Something Clean + Shelf…or perhaps French Maid.

Power Snatch 5x3
Snatches are mostly going well. Figured out why I can’t do both pulls, I was repositioning my hips when I paused between pulls. I think I’m being influenced by the twerking craze. Hook grip has my thumbs almost mashed back to the “correct” shape. No pain no hook grip.

Bench 4x5-190#
Need a simpler program, one that doesn’t require counting to 5 sets. Noticed when I was done I missed one set of bench.

DB Row 1x5-95#,4x10-95#
I decided to continue my displaying my lack of counting ability in the rows.

“Mid Life Crisis arc?” Anime fan? Wife working the back, very good. Wife does karate? My wife comes from a long line of Arnis practitioners and occasionally teaches. If none of this makes sense, it’s the Jameson’s.

Corm,

About how long after starting overhead squats was it before you were able to hit depth? For some obscure reason (fear leaps to mind) I find it nearly impossible to drop down holding weight overhead, it’s much different than oly lifts (which I suck at anyway) because in those I am already in motion, OH squats end up looking like I am posing for some sort of future photo-shop opportunity.

Yeah, that comes with age!

You might have to have a little pre-lift set up ritual that you do before every lift, such as noting where your hips are? It might help or it might not, hard to say. If I remember correctly, Glenn Pendlay says something like to approach the bar the same way all the time, so my suggestion might be distracting.

Ah the hook grip, I was actually growing 2 more mini thumbs from the bar constantly rubbing.

I now have dog-walking envy.

hel - Just plain old fashion comic books for me, and more flash backs to my childhood caused by all the recent movies. My kids are all big anime fans, but I can’t tell the male from the female characters so I find it confusing.

When I quit throwing I started karate with the family to get my cardio in shape so I wouldn’t suffer form heart disease when I turned 60 like the rest of my family. Now I’m 41, and I’m dropping karate because I get angina 15 minutes into class. All the kids have dropped she is thinking of quitting the club as well. We had been at it 8 years, and she was just starting to teach, so it is too bad, as there is a lack of women in the club, but she wants to get on with other things in her life.

Brian - First time or second time? I had the same problem first time. I was not quit as deep as I could be on my snatch catch and was told to try them to help, and I found I was higher than the snatch. After trying to slowly work my way down I eventually just started dive bombing them holding just a broomstick and got depth. I fell over a few times, but I got it after a bit. This time it is just a matter of flexibility, so I have just been dropping to the “floor” and getting lower and lower, but I haven’t had the balance issue and I think the difference now is psychological. I know I can do it, so I can just go as far as the stretch will allow, whereas the first time it was “impossible” and I was panicking and losing my balance. Now it is going down ahead of my snatch, as I’m pulling such a light weight I’m to heavy to pull myself underneath it so I’m just power snatching everything. I need to decide whether to get my oly’s up or grind on the power lifts soon, as I’m getting heavy enough on the power lifts I’m having trouble doing both justice in the same workout.

urban - I was hoping I was just too drunk to count and had forgotten I was drinking…

minimal - good idea. I’m usually lining up the first pull and thinking about it, then forgetting the second pull, or thinking about the second pull and not paying attention when I line up. I even managed to whack my knees with the bar thinking about the second pull during the first a couple of times! The mid lift hip jiggle isn’t that attractive on me…

I’ve tried some OLY lifting mixed in, usually as a warm-up, before powerlifting but I couldn’t handle it. I couldn’t give great effort to the OLY lifting and then expect to train powerlifting well. It’s a hard mix.

I’ve been week enough that I’ve been jumping back and forth without getting too beat up, but I can feel it starting to wear and I have to pick something for my next cycle soon…too many options though.

Not the perkiest today. Work’s been extra busy and sitting and typing without moving for 3-4 hours at a stretch.

Overhead Squat 10x40#

Overhead Squat + Military Presses three sets of 1+3 at 40#

Snatch 5 at 140#
Lined up the snatches arms reach of the rack, helps me from going forward.
Butt was too high on set up, adjusted down and I no longer need to shove it back down mid lift.

Librarians: Clean + 10s Shelf 10 at 140#
Adjusted hand grip each time and found happy spot again. Can hold it, add in Front squats and jerks next time until it locks in.

Squats 5x5 at 265#
First and last set of squats were mostly high?

Oveherhead Press 5x5 at 215#

Pulldowns 5x5 at 215#

I rate this workout a liberal spanking with the baseball bat. My glutes are killing me, there has been no D in DOMS, the MS just O’d immediately.

Feeling trashed, and not super motivated. Don’t know if I need to change things up or just starving on the 3500 kcal. Or just tired from work?

Probably a little both of being hungry and that stupid four letter word, work! That’s what happens to me anyway. What’s the new saying, sitting is the new smoking or something like that?

Damn, I’m at an 8 pack a day habit then…

Good news, angiogram booked for the 23rd! The echocardiogram said I was clogged up enough I got in a month faster than the Dr. originally thought. They do the angioplasty at the same time if that is all that needs doing. Stents usually to, but not always. They won’t give me a line on how long until I can lift again until after they have poked around, but I was told anything from a few days to a couple of weeks. WAY better than I was expecting.

I also only need to shave one day off my current program, as I was planning on a deload and review for the last week of August anyway, so I can just sit around and plan and get back started in September.

Good to hear your making progress towards a diagnosis and treatment, if needed, for your heart condition. Its miraculous to see how medical science has advanced to the point of turning a blocked aortic artery into a mere inconvenience.

Before you know it it’ll be early September and you’ll be right back at it!

I liked reading that partially blocked arteries only SOMETIMES require you to stay in the hospital overnight. In my Dad’s day it was wait until it bad enough for a bypass. I’m thinking of squat alternates to work on while the catheter hole heals, otherwise it should be low stress. The real problem is that if my cardio goes back up to normal I’ll have too many exercise options…

Are you sure you want to do squats during early recovery. I would think any squats right away would be too stressful. Speedy recovery to you.

No, sorry, I meant squat alternatives. Unfortunately all I have come up with on the equipment I have are leg curls and leg extensions. I guess I can survive that for a week or two…basically I need t avoid intra-abdominal pressure while the catheter hole seals back up. So bench is fine, but overhead work is probably out, cable rows are probably OK. Work in progress, but I have a couple of weeks.

Took the kids to an anime convention on the weekend, late at work Monday, and then my friend’s house caught a bit of lightning. Nothing burnt, but he had no surge protection…so I spent last night rebuilding his router and computers. His wife runs a home office so they were freaked as they thought they had lost everything. They are all Mac’s and iCloud saved them, even though they didn’t know I had them backed up to it.

So, my workout, after we were done, consisted of a number of seated 355 mL arm curls…it left my head really sore this morning. I rate the workout a baseball bat between the eyes. Stopping drinking has killed my resistance…

OK, still no workout, but my log is falling off the bottom so I have to post something!
