Once parents thought they were supposed to be friends with their kids combined with thinking the ability to procreate is special. This is how you end up with college students, technically adults, at a college Iike Evergreen State talking down to a professor like Brett Weinstein or the campus president. I saw the videos and I still couldn’t believe the douchebaggery I was watching. But they are the result of parents who never said no. I see kids coming to school wearing pajamas. What kind of limp wristed wannabe cool parent lets their kid leave the house like that?
But to me the problem isn’t the behavior but the fragility they display when they get pushback.

I’m on exactly the same page as you. Still leaning toward that first thing but the second is literally the only other rational explanation for what is going on.
I think the scary thing is just the way it’s spread. I mean where I’m at in Kansas isn’t the middle of nowhere but it’s certainly not some giant area by any means. The shit has spread all over the globe and we have absolutely no idea how many people have actually been exposed/have it. Our current global number is probably insanely low to the truth.
Part of me (see initial posts in the thread) is always leaning towards overblown/overhyped with this kind of thing. But something is different about this no doubt. I mean we didn’t do anything like this with (insert any of the recent health scares, Ebola, bird flu, whatever) previously. It’s not like the media didn’t hype the shit out of those things. We’re talking giant parts of the world shutting everything down. Sports gone, movie theaters shut down, schools, courts, etc.
My hope is that really smart people know that this is the best way to beat this thing and getting ahead of this with short term pain is the way to go. Maybe a few weeks from now we’re starting to look back on this thing and congratulate people for keeping it in check. We’re looking at is as a modern marvel that science and the ability to communicate instantly worldwide kept shit from hitting the absolute fan. I think we’re just in uncharted water worldwide and no one can possibly know where it goes. Right now I’m at the point where I’m ok with us doing too much in terms of prevention rather than not doing enough. And I certainly would have rolled my eyes at that shit a month ago.

Which is why the CCP is simply trying to cast doubt on where the virus originated from because they anticipate that other countries will start blaming them. That’s all they’re doing. The top guys want international credibility. They do not want to their international image to be like Iran’s. They won’t go so far as to officially start accusing the US of biological warfare because they would sound absurd.
Sure, they will let some online rumors spread. Maybe they pay some guys to do it for them. Maybe this happens organically and they’re just letting the ones they like pass the censors. The reference to the origin of the Spanish Flu has been circulating online for the past month. They can easily throw the guys spreading these rumors under the bus if the international response isn’t in their favor.

Don’t know if anyone really did anything like that with TP though. I really don’t like going to the store so I tend to always buy more than we need of stuff like that anyways so we’re sitting alright. I mean I don’t have stacks of anything really but I don’t like to run out of things. Sad part is that I was probably due for a “stock up” of toilet paper which is probably about two months for wife and the kid. Maybe this will finally lead to a breakthrough in America for bidets.

There is recourse. Some things I’ve learned is that you get treated how you let people treat you. And people behave how they are allowed to behave. And the way my class is structured, positive behavior helps your grade and poor behavior hurts it. Once kids realize that consequence they behave accordingly.
The real problem isn’t the behavior but how young people react when they don’t get their way or get their need for validation fulfilled. I’m not the first person to talk about this. The book, The Coddling of the the American Mind, talks about this stuff. When I was a kid, if you did something wrong or against the rules, you knew you would pay a price if you got caught. So if you did it anyway you just accepted the consequence because you knew that was a possibility beforehand. I knew plenty of kids who did things knowing that if their fathers found out they would get their asses kicked. It was a chance they took and if they got their asses kicked they didn’t cry about it. Now you have parents making excuses because they didn’t raise their kids with any kind of structure or proper social behavior. They let their kids express their feelings but don’t teach them how to properly express them so they say things in ways that are rude and uncivil. I’ve had to tell kids that, “we’re not friends or family. Maybe your parents let you talk to them like that but you won’t talk to me like that. I don’t even talk to YOU like that.” They’ve pretty much been taught that it’s OK to be an asshole if you’re having a bad day or your life has some issues. Those issues can be real but it doesn’t give someone the right to be mean to others. But what happens is, when these kids get older and are in the real world, they need to be able to separate personal issues from professional because people won’t tolerate you being a jerk because your wife is cheating on you, you have cancer or your kid wants to go to clown college. We are creating a bunch of effeminate whiners.

There has been, and likely still is, research into modifying pathogens including viruses for various purposes, one of which is biological warfare. Not saying that’s what this is, but almost anything is possible.
Me too, I don’t believe everything I hear, but certain things are plausible and deserve some consideration.
Well, there are allegations in the US/western media that it came from the lab in Wuhan, likely by accident but for what purpose would they create such a virus? And then you have America’s enemies blaming the US and calling it biological warfare, it wasn’t me who imagined that but maybe I gave it more consideration than it is worth.
Whatever caused this, we will never know. That is the only certainty.
