Corn. Good or Bad??

OK, so I’m trying to lose weight and have removed all high glycemic carbs from my diet. Breads and rice are all gone. I’m replacing them with vegetables. However, I hate vegetables with a capital “H.”

I’ve recently been adding mixed veggies and find them somewhat tolerable. I’m sure we’ve all eaten these: cubed carrots, green beans, peas, and CORN!!

I’ve noticed the corn somewhat sweetens it up a bit. However, it’s been suggested that I should remove all grains from my diet and, corn being a grain, I was wondering what the consesus on corn is. Is corn good or bad for you? Will it sabotage your diet?

Thanks!

What a corny question!!

hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha!

Nothing is good or bad (except something like transfats). Stop trying to make such absolute classifications.

Corn will raise your blood sugar. It’s probably not the best choice as far as veggies are concerned when trying to lean out. Stick with coniferous ones.

Look up the Question of Nutrition series. Jonny Bowden talks about it there.

Thanks, Trenchant.

Corn is a Grain.

Not a Vegetable.

Your replacing one thing with something similar…

Corn is evil.

Why did you even post?

Corn is fine. It’s pretty starchy, so I’d try it closer to the mornings or peri-workout area if you’re trying to lean out. Like someone else said, stick to the greens towards the later hours of the day.

My point was: Whats the point of switching out one evil for another?

If your going to cut out breads and rice (Which certain types have a far lower GI than corn) why turn around and replace it with something that has a very similar GI.

If your going to cut out all grains, cut out all grains. Its like saying I’m going to stop drinking beer…except for Corona.

I agree. My only reason for eating the corn is that it’s mixed in with the frozen vegetables I eat. I’ve noticed that it takes the edge off the other veggies, and makes them more palatable. I may give them up entirely though.

I doubt your fat-loss efforts are being trumped by eating some damn corn…seriously.

yeah cut that soda!

WTF no comment on the corny joke?

If it was suggested you jump off the Brooklyn Bridge would you do it?

Anyone who tells you to remove all grains from your diet is a dogmatic idiot.

…But I’m going to agree with this. There’s a time and a place for everything. I don’t get all these infallable proclamations people are making, though.

You can NEVER eat corn and grains because you WILL get fat and die.

To perhaps be clearer on my meaning:

dog·mat·ic

  1. Relating to, characteristic of, or resulting from dogma.
  2. Characterized by an authoritative, arrogant assertion of unproved or unprovable principles

dog·ma
2. An authoritative principle, belief, or statement of ideas or opinion, especially one considered to be absolutely true.

No one can demonstrate why for example a given amount of starch consumed from corn or other grain is “worse” than when consumed from non-grain sources, or why any nutrient or substance in the grain is worse when consumed that way than when consumed from other sources.

It is idiocy.

And the manner of proclamation and the belief-system adherence is of the dogmatic type, as the assertion that grains should best not be consumed at all is unproved and unprovable, yet by its proponents advocated as being absolutely true and typically stated authoritatively.

x2

What about corn on a cob? Can you truly ever eat an entire corn on a cob, or just .9 of a corn on a cob?
