Just finished reading it. Confirmed my opinions on Planned Parenthood. The last paragraph is very revealing:

‘Some of the patients she sees come for annual exams; some come because something’s wrong. Most don’t get any health care anywhere else. “A Muslim woman just came with her sister,” Steinle said. “She walked in; she had never been sexually active. She had a question about her anatomy. She had seen her sister naked once, and she didn’t look the same. I said, ‘Let’s do an exam.’ And she was fine. Everything was fine. ‘You are fine,’ I said, and she sighed with relief, her whole body sighed.” Steinle sank into her chair. “For ten years, she had been carrying this around with her, this fear that she would never be able to be with anyone.” Ten years. It was a long wait.’

Are you kidding me? The reason she is screwed up is - undeniably - because of her religion and culture. Nothing to do with a lack of Planned Parenthood Centers.[/quote]

Wow the point of that last paragraph sailed over your head.

YES her religion did make her think that there MIGHT be something wrong with her. However, Planned Parenthood was the only place she had access to medical staff to 1. Assess for sure whether or not she was healthy “Some of the patients she sees come for annual exams; some come because something’s wrong. Most don’t get any health care anywhere else.” 2. Receive a medical opinion regarding her anatomy.

The other option would be to eliminate every religion that makes it possible for women to feel uncomfortable asking questions and researching their own sexual function/anatomy (oh the irony). We all know you don’t want that.

Yes, I did.

So when Romney says abstinence-only should be taught in the classroom that’s parents deciding for themselves?

You obviously missed page 7 or 8 of the article posted where they went over what happens when parents are left in control of sex education. I’m astonished at how many people think that every parent on earth, or even a majority of parents, are going to properly teach their kids about contraceptives and sex. “My friend thinks saran wrap can be used as a contraceptive” did you miss that part?

Or the diet of children. Do you know how many parents screw that up? Or discipline. And religion too.

Hell, the government should just raise all the kids for everybody, because today’s parents are idiots.

The only thing worse than idiot parents doing it is some politically motivated corporation or bureaucracy.

Some parents doing something that is bad, in your opinion, doesn’t give you the right to do what you think is right with other people’s kids.

Sure. Let’s just let people brutally beat their children, feed them starvation diets, make them eat their own vomit, etc. Oh wait, all of those parenting methods are not allowed. Why is the government preventing these parents from doing as they see fit?

Yeah, because not teaching a 10 year old about anal sex is totally child abuse.

Not teaching a kid about contraceptives, sex, and STDs is a public health concern and can lead to life-threatening disease spread. Sadly, not even beating the child or feeding him a poor-heart-health diet is as much of a public health concern.

It’s still correct. All of those things do hinder disease spread.

In addition, it’s important to realize that a kid would have to ask a specific question in order to be given that information. I went to Planned Parenthood ages 15+ and never once did they tell me about anything other than the differences in safety/pregnancy rates with a condom and other methods. As a result, I used the pill AND a condom with my boyfriend.

In addition, I was made aware of the dangers of having multiple partners and advised to make sure that my sex partner be tested before sleeping with him.

Damn those Planned Parenthood people and their disease prevention tactics!

Wow, I waited till I got married. Can I get a share of PP’s money for teaching myself? I got all the same information from common sense.

And again, if that was all they did, it would be a different conversation, but it’s not all they do.

Other things Planned Parenthood told me:

“This IUD will make you infertile if you sleep with someone with certain STDs without protection”

“You might have cancer. Here’s a form to make sure you get that checked out this week”

“You have healthy weight and blood pressure”

“Your hormone and other tests came back normal”

“If you need personal counseling, we have those services”

“We need to follow up on that.”

Such an evil service!

Judging by STD and teen pregnancy rates, what you consider common sense isn’t.

It would be nice to live in a world of DoubleDuces, but, unfortunately, we don’t. Time to take the rose colored glasses off and see the herpes/HIV/gonorrhea/chlamydia/HPV/unwanted pregnancies spreading among the ill-or-non-informed youth.

If it makes you feel any better, I know a lot of people who’ve gone to Planned Parenthood, and I don’t know one who had an experience that was different than my own. That really is what they tell you/do.

It is not necessary that everything an organization does is bad for the organization to be bad. They can do some good and still be bad. Hitler got trains to run on time.

The links Sloth provided. It talked about how showing pornography to children has neural repercussions. In order for those links to be relevant you have to equate sexual health material to pornography.

work the googles. pornography = “Printed or visual material containing the explicit description or display of sexual organs or activity.”
Visual material- Check. Explicit description or display of sexual organs - Check. Explicit description or display of sexual activity - Check. Yep, its porn.
