Considering Moving to Austin, TX

Im considering moving to the Austin area from California. I currently live in the Bay Area and while I do love it here and have a ton of family there are some drawbacks. I was on a vacation recently visiting my girlfriends family in Austin during Thanksgiving. They actually live near Round Rock and Hutto.

I was amazed at the housing prices and how much you get for your money. I could afford to buy a pretty nice house there. Her brother actually lives in Hutto so it would be close to that. It seems like a great culture of people down there and your money surely goes farther. I know my income would take a big hit but Im prepared for that. The people seem super nice and damn proud of their state!

Anyone live near there that can give me any advice? Any good gyms? What are your thoughts on the area ? I would be looking to move into a newly built house in Hutto/Round Rock and probably working in Austin. Thanks!

I’m not moving there for her. I want to be able to own a home and get out of the Bay Area. It’s crazy expensive here and the culture is so different these days. I like the culture in Texas. There are some genuine people there. Plus I like that it’s a slower pace than here.

If I were leaving the Bay Area, I’d want to get away from traffic. Traffic in and around Austin is hideous. I’d make sure I drove from where I was going to work to where I was going to live a few times during rush hour before I made a decision to move there.

What do you do for work?

I work for a wealth management firm. We have a few offices in Austin I could probably transfer to. Otherwise I would have to get a new job somewhere else. I hear the job market is strong though.
